بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيم
Not many people know the real story behind GB, so here it is.
In 2018, I was 21, working at Co-op with no real plan. I just loved cooking for family and friends. They kept telling me my food banged and pushed me to do something with it. After a lot of convincing, I gave it a go. GB was born, inspired by and . At the time, nothing like this existed in East London.
One Saturday at 8pm, me and my mum made 30 boxes from home. I was nervous and didn’t expect much, but Alhamdulillah, the response was mad. For the next 6 to 8 months, I did this every Saturday. Up at 5am to go Billingsgate, walking or getting help from friends to source the best ingredients. I didn’t even have a licence.
Eventually, I saved enough to move into a dark kitchen. I poured everything into it. People think there was a big team behind GB, but it was mostly just me. I cooked, cleaned and managed it all. My family helped with pictures and graphics (shoutout ) and supported me throughout.
Then lockdown hit in March 2020. I thought it was over, but GB grew more than ever. I faced real trials, betrayal and stress, but I kept going. I introduced new ideas and never gave up.
Later, a shop opportunity came up. I went all in again, spent my savings and more. It looked ready, but behind the scenes it was chaos. Without my uncle, dhulabhai and younger brother, it wouldn’t have opened. Delays dragged on for over a year. I started to doubt myself and the food scene.
But now we’re 4 weeks in and Alhamdulillah, we’re getting there.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you. JazakAllah Khair to everyone who’s supported me. Whether you bought a box, shared a post or showed love I appreciate you.
Just a guy with a love for food and a dream.
May Allah put barakah in it for us all 🤲🏽
Love always
GB
