I’ve thought long and hard at how to word this post as I don’t want to offend the lady involved but as one therapist to another I think it’s something that needs addressing.
It is NEVER acceptable to place our hands and palpate a horse’s back unless it is:
A) our clients horse and they’ve booked us to assess said horse
B)our friends/family members horse and they’ve have asked us to have a feel
C) our own horse
It is not acceptable to start palpating a horse you meet at a show. Especially when there is viruses rife 45 mins down the road.
I was at a charity horse show at the weekend. It was Bellamies 3rd show, it was much bigger then her previous 2. Much more going on. She won her class but then she got attacked by horseflies and totally freaked. It was all a bit much for the princess so we retreat back to the lorry. She was so terrified and tense head to toe.
The lady in the trailer parked next to me had been chatting during the day and supportive but without warning randomly started feeling Bellamies back. She didnt know me from adam so why she felt the need to do it I’m not sure. She muttered the words “oh you’re a tight girl” . Well that’s a given in the current situation especially after the freaking out. Then she just wandered off. My friend who is also my vet , was there and we both were left speechless. Just to add what if B had freaked out and kicked her??!
This is so unacceptable and I wish I’d said something to her at the time.
The crazy thing is she spent a while looking at the withers (or lack of them) .
I can’t understand why she wouldn’t then ask me where her DSPs T4-8 were 🤣
