Washable nappies are not only better for the environment - they're also cheaper! I haven't looked into nappy prices in a while but 5 years ago a parent could expect to spend £2-3000 on nappies from birth to potty. You can get set up with washable nappies for £2-300. Even taking into account energy costs of washing you're saving a huge amount over the course of your child's nappy use.
It becomes even better value if you factor in siblings or buy second hand / sell on when you're finished.
I offer hire buckets for £15/ month where you can borrow everything you need to try it out.

This week there'll be no replies about nappies or party kit hire cos in just 2 days time I'm setting off on a 4 day, 400 mile cycling adventure from Reading to Lands End!
Not going to lie - the panic is setting in! And not just because of the weather forecast!
I'm riding in a team from my cycling club in support of the One More City campaign which raises money to fund research into secondary breast cancer. The ethos of One More City is that the journey is never over; we are always progressing towards the next city, there are always more kilometres to do, more climbs to conquer and more challenges to face. This is akin to the reality of anyone living with cancer, especially secondary cancer, for whom the challenge is never over; there are always more treatments to endure, more scans to face, more side effects to manage.
Secondary breast cancer is the leading cause of death of women under 50 in the UK. One More City is working to reduce this through targeted support of researchers. This year we hope to raise £120,000 to fund a 4 year Ph.D student at the ICR, to research new treatments for secondary breast cancer.
We feel strongly about focusing on research (rather than general awareness about breast cancer) and on funding a studentship (versus a piece of lab equipment for example), so that we are supporting a specific project and also contributing to the development of a scientific talent.
Monies raised by OMC are held in a ring-fenced fund until such time as a Ph.D. student can be recruited.

I've been experimenting for face bars for a while but have finally found this one from Nivea. Just what I need. No fuss, no plastic, decent price. Why can't we all just stop putting soap in unnecessary plastic bottles please? We need big business to make the decision to just stop.
Also can Waitrose & Partners stock it in East sheen please. 🙏☺️

Definitely a good suggestion I think! Vouchers to help families get started is really beneficial in helping get over the initial cost of starting with cloth nappies. I do think the bigger issue though is improving people's knowledge though. We need to normalise cloth nappies so people feel comfortable to do it. More education and support is desperately needed. Too many people think they're dirty and unhygienic or too much hard work.
Any ideas on how to change this?
Nappy Alliance says scheme would encourage people to switch away from polluting single-use nappies

Parenting is hard. Tea, Cake and Parenting is the joint brainchild of Madeleine and Cat, aiming to support local parents with social meet ups, dedicated topic mornings and lots of tea and cake!
Madeleine is a Trageschule and Slingababy trained Babywearing Consultant and runs Sheen Slings Sling Library and Consultancy, where she supports parents learning to use and finding the right baby carrier for them.
Madeleine is mum to Tom (aged 6) and Rachel (aged 2). Prior to Tom’s birth, she’d never even held a baby, much less changed a nappy! She was the first in her family and friendship group to have a baby, and found going to social groups an absolute life and sanity saver in terms of learning what to expect and getting ideas at each new stage as her son grew!
Prior to parenthood, Madeleine was a research scientist looking at the role of the immune system and inflammation in chronic kidney disease. She has a PhD in Immunology and a masters in Infection and Immunity. Her scientific background gives her an evidence based approach to parenthood.
Cat is a LSSM trained sports massage and soft tissue therapist with advanced training in pregnancy and post-natal massage. Cat treats a wide range of clients - mums, dads, office workers and athletes. She applies a variety of massage and stretching techniques in her sessions so help target and alleviate symptoms of postural discomfort, aches and pains, repetitive strain injuries and a wide range of minor soft tissue injuries.
Cat is also a fully trained baby massage and baby yoga instructor, running classes in East Sheen. Her classes aim to support children’s physical, emotional and psychological development through touch, movement and sensory play - and lots of singing!
Cat is mum to Emma (5) and William (1), an enthusiastic rower and an ex-teacher. Her ‘mummy career’ brings together her interests in sport and physiology and child development, while allowing her to work from home in a flexible way. At least that’s the plan!
