On Friday 30 October, the Mayor of Bexley Charity Appeal brings a spectacular ABBA tribute evening to the stage, featuring talented performers from London’s West End.

Beyond the music and entertainment, the evening has a much bigger purpose, raising vital funds for three charities making a difference in our local community: Crossroads SEL

Trulybeloved: a children’s charity

Expect timeless ABBA hits, plenty of opportunities to sing and dance, and a delicious choice of Greek-inspired wraps included in your ticket.

Whether you grew up with ABBA or simply love a great night out, this promises to be an evening worth celebrating.

Dust off those dancing shoes, embrace a little sparkle and help us turn a fantastic night of entertainment into meaningful support for local people.

Today we attended the Space Matters Kent Conference at the Ashford International Conference Centre, with thought-provoking contributions from speakers including Karen Treisman and Ton Mazzone.

A strong reminder that trauma-informed practice is not simply about individual approaches, but about organisational culture, leadership and the environments we create.

At Crossroads SEL our commitment to becoming a trauma informed organisation goes beyond achieving a quality mark.
It is about embedding psychological safety, compassion and understanding into how we lead, support our workforce and deliver services.

For organisations working with unpaid carers and older people, this is fundamental to building trust, strengthening relationships and improving outcomes.

Trauma-informed practice must be embedded in organisational strategy, and not be treated as an additional initiative.

Attended the Adult Health and Social Care (AHSC) Network meeting Bexley Voluntary Service Council today.

These networks play an important role in bringing local organisations together, sharing knowledge, understanding local priorities and strengthening the partnerships that support our communities.

It was good to see Cllr Janice Ward-Wilson, Crook Log Ward Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, attending and engaging with organisations across the sector.

Her involvement reflects the importance of strong connections between the Council and community organisations.

For Crossroads SEL it is particularly important that the voices and experiences of unpaid carers and older people remain central to conversations about health, social care and community support.

By working collaboratively, sharing expertise and building relationships across the sector, we can help ensure people receive the right support at the right time, while recognising the vital contribution of unpaid carers.

Strong partnerships make for stronger communities. It was good to be part of the conversation and connect with others committed to improving outcomes for people across Bexley.

It was great to see a number of residents today at the Ageing Well event held at London Borough of Bexley Civic Offices

We had a table alongside a number of local organisations, sharing information about the support available to unpaid carers and older people living in Bexley.

It was also good to see Austin from SELCE-South East London Community Energy highlighting our new partnership project on energy advice and home safety service for unpaid carers living in Bexley.

A special thank you to Jolanta Linkeviciute, Mary, Irene Reader and Pat for representing the charity today, talking about the different services we provide to unpaid carers & older people.

It was great to see the Deputy Mayor of Bexley Cllr Frazer Brooks, the deputy Mayoress & Cllr Janice Ward-Wilson, Crook Log Ward ,Cabinet member for Adult Social Care & Health

Events like this are so valuable, bringing local services together, making connections and helping people find the right support to live and age well in Bexley. 👏

Yesterday, our colleague Mary represented Crossroads SEL at the Adult Community Services Marketplace at Queen Mary’s Hospital.

It was a great opportunity to meet colleagues from Oxleas, Bexley Adult Social Care and other local services to raise awareness of the support we provide to unpaid carers and older people across our communities.

Building those local connections helps us make sure unpaid carers and families know where to turn for support.

We welcome the decision to appoint a new national champion for unpaid carers, an important opportunity to give unpaid carers the sustained visibility and strategic focus they deserve.

At Crossroads SEL our frontline experience of supporting and working alongside unpaid carers gives us a clear view of both the essential contribution they make to the health and social care system and the pressures they can face in sustaining their caring role.

For us, the value of this appointment will be measured by its ability to translate unpaid carers’ lived and frontline experience into meaningful influence on policy, commissioning and service design.

A strong national voice for unpaid carers should help strengthen partnership across government, health and social care, providers and community organisations, ensuring support is accessible, preventative and responsive to there needs.

At Crossroads SEL we support unpaid carers and older people across Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham through a range of practical, emotional and community-based services.

One of those services is our Volunteer Befriending Service, helping older people feel less isolated, more connected and valued in their community.

We’re now recruiting Volunteer Befrienders.

A little of your time could mean a lot to someone else, whether that’s a regular visit, a friendly chat, sharing an interest or simply being there.
