FOUR YEARS OF KAWAH IN THE UK! 🎉☕️🇷🇼🇬🇧

Four years ago today, Kawah Coffee officially began its UK chapter.

We started small.

Boxes packed by hand.
Coffee samples prepared one by one.
Market tables set up wherever we could tell our story.
And countless cups poured while introducing people to specialty coffee grown thousands of miles away in Kinunu, Rwanda.

But behind every bag was something much bigger: our family farm, our farmers, our community and a belief that the people behind coffee deserve to share more of its value.

Four years later, that connection between Rwanda and the UK has only grown stronger.

Kawah remains proudly single-origin, from our family farm in Western Rwanda, with women at the heart of our coffee journey.

To everyone who has bought a bag, tasted a cup, stocked our coffee, invited us to an event, introduced us to an opportunity, shared our story or simply cheered us on:

The Coffee Queen wasn’t inspired by fashion.

She was inspired by these women.

Long before Kawah Coffee reaches a café, a shop or someone’s kitchen, its story begins here — in the hills of Kinunu, Rwanda.

It begins with women whose knowledge, skill and labour nurture coffee through every season.

Women who know the land.

Women who recognise when a cherry is ready to be picked.

Women whose hands are part of the quality we ultimately taste in the cup.

When we created KAWAH COFFEE: From Seed to Soul with Mary Martin London, we wanted the Coffee Queen to do something very simple:

Make visible the people the coffee industry too often leaves invisible.

The gown may have walked a runway in London.

But its story began here.

In Kinunu.

With them. ❤️

What if you could wear the story behind your coffee?

This summer, something extraordinary happened.

The story of Kawah Coffee left the hills of Kinunu and appeared on a London runway.

When British fashion designer Dame Mary Martin heard the story of Kawah and the women behind our coffee, she was moved to translate that story into fashion.

Together, we developed a concept that would make visible the women whose hands nurture our coffee long before it reaches a cup.

And the Coffee Queen was born. 👑☕

Real coffee beans were carefully incorporated into the bodice.

Coffee cherries, foliage and natural elements evoke the fertile landscape of Kinunu and the shores of Lake Kivu.

And at the centre stands a woman — not presented simply as a coffee worker, but as a Queen.

Because behind every bean is a pair of hands.

Behind every harvest is a story.

And behind Kawah are remarkable women whose skill, resilience and dedication deserve to be seen.

From the hills of Rwanda to a stage in London. 🇷🇼➡️🇬🇧

What an incredible honour for to be represented at the 5th UK Black Business Entrepreneurs Conference, where our founder, Michaelle Kubwimana, was invited to speak on a panel about international business and the journey of bringing Kawah Coffee to the UK.

What began as a conversation about specialty coffee quickly became a conversation about something much bigger—Rwanda.

We were proud to share the story behind every cup of Kawah Coffee: our family legacy, our farmers, our community, and our commitment to producing exceptional specialty coffee while creating meaningful impact at origin.

One of the most rewarding moments was meeting so many people who wanted to learn more about Rwanda—not only as the home of world-class coffee, but also as a country full of opportunity, innovation and investment potential.

Coffee has an incredible way of bringing people together.

Every cup starts a conversation.

Every conversation builds a connection.

And every connection has the power to create new partnerships and opportunities.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr Carlton Brown and the entire UK Black Business Entrepreneurs Conference team for organising one of the best events we have had the privilege of attending. It was an inspiring celebration of entrepreneurship, leadership and collaboration, and we are already looking forward to next year’s conference.

From one cupping event… to a growing partnership ☕️✨

We first met Andrew from during the Taste of Rwanda event in London back in 2024.

Since then, we’ve shared several meaningful moments together — from the London Coffee Festival to fundraising cupping events supporting our skills training centre project in Rwanda.

Beyond coffee, this collaboration has also supported our vision for the future.
The donation of cupping spoons for our training centre lab means a lot as we continue building opportunities for farmers and youth at origin.

And we’re excited to now be part of their latest box for this year’s 👀☕️

Grateful for partnerships that grow with purpose.

From origin to global conversations.

A few weeks ago, we’ve had the opportunity to engage in meaningful trade and industry spaces — from high-level cupping sessions to international exhibitions.

Through initiatives like International, we continue to position Kawah Coffee within a global network of quality, trade, opportunity and we showcased our Specialty ☕️ at the 3 days in London.

These moments matter.

They ensure that the work happening at origin is recognised, valued, and connected to the right markets.

We are proud to represent Rwandan women in coffee on these platforms.

And we are open to conversations with buyers and partners looking to source with purpose.
