Knaresborough Cycling Club

Knaresborough Cycling Club Knaresborough Cycling Club is for the community of Knaresborough and surrounding villages, launched in 2014 as a permanent legacy to the visit of 'le Tour'

Inspired by the visit of the Tour de France to the town, Knaresborough Cycling Club was ‘re-born’ in 2014 by a group of enthusiastic local road cyclists. The Club offers rides for all abilities, from starters through to faster, stronger riders, with the Sunday Club runs ranging from a steady 20-25 miles, through to a faster 50-60 miles – all with a coffee and cake stop thrown in. There are also re

gular Thursday evening rides. Please see the club rides section of our website for this week’s rides and to download a membership form.

A message from the Club Chair Amanda, regarding a potential date for return to Club rides.

"Hello everyone, I hope you have all been able to enjoy some cycling over the past three months and the freedom of the country roads has helped to counter some of the other challenges and restrictions on liberty that we have all needed to manage in some way, shape or form.

I've certainly missed the camaraderie of the club and look forward to when we can meet again safely and without offending anyone! To that end we suggest that we look to the first weekend in September as a possible weekend to restart club rides. Of course things may change between then and now, however if we put a marker in the sand and aim to find a way to meet 9am Sunday September 6th 2020 then at least we have something to look ahead to.

We will be mindful as things unfold over the Summer and review if our Sunday in September plan is safe and unoffensive in the light of what unfolds. Until then the guidance certainly allows for groups of up to six from different households to meet and ride together providing you observe the rules and a bit of social etiquette... staying 2m apart and no clearing your nostrils!!

Club members can use our club Facebook group to plan a ride with some cycling club buddies at any time of week or day and, if you stop for a breather, share a photo from your ride.

We will be back in touch near the end of August with an update via email and Facebook.

Cheers to a Summer of Riding Safely and staying alert!

Amanda

Hi all,

Knaresborough Cycling Club will be running its second ‘Back to Cycling Group’ this year, building upon the success of the 2017 version. These will be short, gentle rides, led by the Club chair Amanda, building up over a course of 8 weeks, with the aim of riders then moving up to join the other ride groups within the club if they enjoy it.

They will start on Sunday April 8th from 9am at the Clubs usual start point at the car park on Chapel Street near KD Carpets. A Roadworthy bike, helmet, water and the price of cup of tea (if there is a cafe stop!) is all that is required.

If you would like further information please contact Amanda on [email protected]. Thanks.

Our medium group took on the hills of the 2014 Le Grand Depart last weekend, with a 90 mile ride taking in over 5,000ft of climbing. Two years ago, when the Club started, the group just about made it to Fountains Abbey and back - extremely impressive, chapeau!
