Here at JSVC we are always open to new tools and technologies that can elevate our service to our patients.

What does this mean?? NEW TOYS! 😍

Introducing the Invoxia Biotracker that we can now offer to our clients. This clever little device attaches to patients collars and can monitor heart and respiratory rates, create graphs and alert us when any parameters become significantly out of the usual ranges for that patient. It runs on 4G connectivity or bluetooth to a phone app and sends data to us remotely daily.

We have only had this available for a couple of weeks, but we are finding it's information extremely helpful and also gives peace of mind to clients over monitoring their pets vital signs ❤

Of course, it doesn't replace clients own intuition over their pet and we are certainly using the information in conjunction with clients observations, feedback so far has been very positive 🥰

Introducing lovely Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Marcel, whose winning personality made him a favourite at JSVC on his recent visits 😍

Marcel came to see Rachel due to a disturbance in his heart rhythm (arrhythmia) called 3rd degree atrio-ventricular block. This is where the the top and bottom chambers of the heart don't work synchronistically and the heart rate drops dangerously low.

The treatment for this arrhythmia is a pacemaker implantation and Marcel went on to have this procedure urgently. Rachel performed the surgery and was assisted by Callan, with experienced nurse Liza monitoring the anaesthesia. The surgery went beautifully and Marcel made a fantastic recovery 🙌❤

We will keep a check on Marcel pacemaker function regularly but he will be able to go on and lead a full doggy life 🥰🐕🐾

We have recently said a sad farewell to two of our team members 🙃

Charlotte and Kerisa have moved on to new ventures and we wish them all the very best ❤

We know we may not have the pleasure of working with Charlotte and Kerisa just now but the friendships we've made will stand and coffee dates will undoubtedly ensue 😁☕

Meet pretty as a Princess, Hazel, who came to see Emily for investigation of a heart murmur and some exercise intolerance.

Hazel's heart scan revealed a small hole in Hazel's heart that allows some blood to pass directly through her atria (the top chambers of the heart) instead of passing through the valves in the normal way. This is called an atrial septal defect or ASD.

To make sure that the blood flow through the ASD was going left-to-right and not right-to-left (which would cause problems) we performed a bubble study. This is where we inject a small amount of sterile saline into Hazel's vein that has been agitated and contains very small micro-bubbles. We can see these bubbles on the heart scan and confirm that they stay in the right side of the heart and don't pass to the left side. Check out our reel to see the video! ❤

After some cuddles with nurse Lydia, Hazel was discharged to her owner with no need for any medication 🙌

Lovely to receive this in the post recently 🥰

It's always great to hear when our service has met the high standards we set ourselves, and our Callan is definitely a deserving recipient. This has brought a smile to the whole team today 🙌

So something a little different!!
The youngest son of our head of cardiology Rachel James is attempting with his school friends to swim the English Channel there and back tomorrow (if the weather remains good!). They are raising money for Mencap. The feat is made more impressive as Thomas and all is friends all have significant learning difficulties. These are a remarkable team of boys who have trained incredibly hard. So if you are to support them they would be very grateful as they are raising money for Mencap an incredible charity.

Help Rachel James raise money to support Mencap

Meet the lovely Percy, the one with the big personality! 😍

Percy came to the clinic to have an arrhythmia investigated and unfortunately we found a heart base mass on his echocardiogram along with a collection of fluid around his heart (pericardial effusion). Further treatment was initiated and the fluid was drained, but Percy represented with another effusion soon after.

The decision was made to perform the surgical procedure to remove a portion of the sack around the heart to prevent the fluid from collecting and hampering heart function (a pericardiectomy).

The lovely team at Visiting Vet Specialists , Catherine and Paula, came to JSVC to perform the surgery successfully and obtain a sample of the heart base mass.

Percy recovered brilliantly and continues to make great progress 🙌❤

Introducing cute as a button Pancake 😍

Pancake was diagnosed with a PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) which is a blood vessel within the heart that should've closed at birth. When this vessel remains open it shunts blood around the heart rather than letting it leave and go around the body and this can end in congestive heart failure at a young age.

Pancake's owners opted for a minimally invasive surgical technique to close the PDA and this was performed successfully at our hospital near Holmes Chapel by super surgeon Mike, assisted by Laura. You can see in the video clip the contrast media butting against the implanted device within the PDA, showing no leakage through the PDA at all. A complete closure! 🙌

Pancake has made a brilliant recovery after her procedure and is back to being her mischievous self ❤

Did you know our surgical procedures are held at a fixed price?? Details can be found on our website www.jsvc.co.uk or call us on 01477 534729.
