Latest: 22 February 2018 is the deadline for school teams to present their projects
Only a small proportion of girls choose to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) or go on to develop STEM-based careers.
In cooperation with SI Weybridge and SI Surrey Hills, SI Woking has renewed its STEM Challenge for schoolgirls in years 8/9. The STEM Challenge is a competition that aims to foster the abilities of girls to innovate and to become more interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths-based careers.
An Information/Briefing evening for teachers was held at the Royal Holloway, University of London on 5th October 2017. Several schools are taking part, including Ashcombe School, Dorking, Bishop Wand School, Sunbury-on-Thames, Guildford County School (four teams) and Woking High School (three teams). The judging and prize-giving evening will be at Royal Holloway on 8th March 2018 and the Judging Panel will be chaired by the High Sheriff of Surrey, Robert Napier CBE. Our support for this project links into Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls…and Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. It also corresponds to the overall Sustainable Development Goal of eradicating poverty.
