Cakes are currently being baked, cooled ready to decorate for this weekend’s orders! ❤️

Firstly, sorry for being so quiet recently.

The uncertainty around the proposed cake cupboard licence, the extra requirements and the costs involved have left me feeling a little unsure about the future of the cupboard and, if I’m honest, a little out of love with baking at times.

I’ve also been busy studying for additional qualifications in my other job, so life has been pretty hectic behind the scenes.

The good news? 🎉

The council still hasn’t reached a decision, which means we have a two-month window where the cake cupboard can continue as normal… and we’re going to make the most of it!

Even more amazingly, the cake cupboard is now ONE YEAR OLD! 🎂

What started as a little idea has become something so much bigger thanks to your support. Every order, share, recommendation and kind message has helped keep Black Forest Bakery going.

To celebrate, the cupboard will be back for Father’s Day weekend (19th-21st June) with a packed menu and a special Father’s Day Treat Box available to pre-order.

A little bit of good news from the oven today… 🍰✨

Bassetlaw Council have announced they are pausing enforcement action against cake cupboards and sheds while the policy is reviewed. This is a huge step forward and shows just how much community voices matter.

Thank you to every single person who shared posts, signed petitions, commented, messaged support or simply continued to support your local small businesses. The response from the community has been incredible and genuinely means the world to all of us running these little cupboards of joy. 💜

It’s also important to say that despite some of the implications surrounding this policy, local cake cupboards like ours already comply with food hygiene and food safety laws, including registration, hygiene inspections, allergen management and Natasha’s Law requirements. The safety of our customers has always been taken seriously.

This pause is a win, but it’s not the finish line yet. We’ll continue working together, respectfully and constructively, to push for a fair and sensible outcome that supports small local businesses and the communities that enjoy them.

For now though… this feels like a very welcome breath of fresh air. Thank you for standing with us.

The next Black Forest Express menu is officially LIVE for the weekend of 22nd–24th May… all being well with the council paperwork gods 🙃

And honestly? This one feels filthy in the best possible way.

Bruce cake slices are BACK.
Stuff Me Silly cookies are loaded.
There’s dipping pots. Cookie fries. Battenburg cookie pie. SCHOOL CAKE.

This menu is basically a 2000s sleepover and I refuse to apologise.

What a weekend 🖤

Thank you SO much to everyone who visited the cake cupboard, shared posts, tagged friends, pre-ordered treats or cleared me out of Bruce pots at alarming speed 😂

Every single purchase genuinely means the world right now. What started as a tiny idea has somehow turned into people driving over for cake pots, focaccia and brownies and I’ll never stop being grateful for that.

The viral Bruce cake pots absolutely flew out this weekend alongside the shortbread/millionaires pots, old school cake and the cookie pies 👀

Now for the slightly less fun bit…

We are HOPING to be back in two weeks, depending on the council’s stance with the new street licence situation and whether there’s a workable way forward for the cupboard in its current format.

Fingers crossed this isn’t the end because I know how much people love the little cake stop 🥹
