๐๐๐ all of our ingredients and allergens are labelled on the back of any of our products as we know how serious allergies can be. We spent a lot of time creating labels with every single ingredient listed for this very reason. We also have a printed booklet of our allergen statement and all of our labels on hand at any sale, please just ask.
We would never offer any allergen free products, e.g. gluten free, nut free etc, as we are home bakers so there is always a chance of cross contamination as we have those products in our home.
Much love to people with allergies as it's so tricky to navigate what's safe when information is not to hand โค๏ธ
Folks.
Can we please take a wee minute to talk about Allergies, Intolerances and The Law?
Allergies, they're not fun, they're not chosen by people, they're everywhere.
As someone who has a food allergy - yup, cranberries have tried to kill me a few times now ๐คฃ - and intolerances (dairy and gluten are not an IBS Sufferers best friend believe it or not...) - it is so important to make things clear and follow The Law.
ALL pre-packed goods MUST have EVERY SINGLE INGREDIENT LISTED - for example the ENTIRE LIST OF INGREDIENTS IN A SNICKERS - Regardless of how small a quantity. Read up on Natasha's Law and report those who aren't following this.
As a Home Baker, I cannot guarantee allergen free. I tell every single person that and it's also in my auto-message on messenger. I make that clear on every video I post too and theres a sign on my Cake Shed explaining this. Other bakeries cannot guarantee it either, unless there is a dedicated space to "said allergen" with completely separate equipment (including ovens etc), different surfaces and a HACCP system to show how they are preventing Cross-Contamination.
As someone who makes products with Gluten, Milk, Egg, Soya etc in them, I CANNOT tell you they are suitable for allergy sufferers. And I certainly would not want to put anyone at risk of becoming unwell, or worse.
So, the next time you see someone offering you Coeliac or Nut Free friendly goods, uncovered, next to Gluten/Wheat/Barley/Nut containing goods, please pause and think - will this product make me unwell as an allergy sufferer. Also, what's to say the tray they're served on hasn't had those allergens on it prior?
The only people I know of (I think - please confirm with them before ordering) who makes such products are Batter & Patter and Cait's Bakes
So please, stay safe. Think with your brain before your eyes and stomach (I know it's hard sometimes believe me!)
