Today Nick and Fiona, over from Australia, were getting married at the fabulous Kinkell Byre in St Andrews.
Their buttercream finished cake was decorated with beautiful pressed dried edible flowers from Floracle. .
Lemon drizzle with lemons curd and buttercream, and red velvet were the flavours and the cake was being used for the couples dessert.

Well I got a fright at the weekend! Made macaron and they went pear shaped…. Well not the shape of pears, but wrinkly and sticky, and pants! My stomach ditched like it used to in ye olden days of fingers crossed and prayer to the mac gods that they had worked when they came out the oven. So I didn’t panic, I luckily had more almonds, because again, the days of having more than you need in case of mistakes are also gone. Long story short, second lot were perfect. Phew! ,
Filled with a pistachio buttercream and away to my wedding yesterday at Kilconquhar Castle. (Say Kin-uk-ar Castle)

What a view! And coffee and cake too 🥰

Climbing Falkland Hill is basically just a very steep, panoramic waiting room for the best part of the morning.

Standing up here, the view of Fife is incredible, but my eyes are strictly locked on that beautiful little beacon of hope:

Cartshed Coffee a peaceful oasis amongst the hills. We love the Sacred Grounds Coffee Company and a slice of cake from A Bonnie Wee Cake.

There is nothing quite like the clarity of mind you get at the summit, mostly because the thin air reminds you that your blood is currently 0% caffeine. I’ve done the hard work, earned the steps, and now I’m just a gravity-assisted descent away from that first glorious sip of a flat white. If you see a blur streaking down the hillside, don't be alarmed—it's just a caffeine-deprived hiker on a mission.

See you at the bottom. Save me a slice of cake! ☕️🏃‍♂️💨

For another one of the show cakes this weekend at at The Old Course, St Andrews, I was inspired by the stunning silk installations I’ve seen on Pinterest over this last year. Swipe for example

They are gorgeous.

Some are very definitely floral, others more organic, capturing movement and romance. I love them!

I wanted to try translating what I’d seen onto cake, and this was my first one.
Using wafer paper techniques as the edible medium I created this soft, sculptural decor. It can be tricky making sure that your ideas are actually workable on real cakes that need to travel ☺️

Getting the physical and mental space to learn, create, play and explore styles is a luxury not often afforded when your art is also a business. You need to feel like you are able to do your best for yourself and your lovely couples, it’s important to carve these times into our everyday.

When there are yet more wonderfully talented cake artists putting down their pinnys it makes me more determined than ever to value what I do and protect what makes my business worth it.

One of the things that I always struggle with is to remember and credit the photographers every time I share beautiful images they’ve taken of my cakes.

Not because I don’t value it — quite the opposite.
The photographers and filmmakers I work with are incredibly talented, and their images are what allow my cakes to live far beyond the wedding day.

But I’m also someone with a computer/camera roll full of screenshots, saved images, and half-remembered folders… and I often worry I might miss someone.

So on my new website I’ve created a Photography & Film credit page — a place where I can properly acknowledge the brilliant creatives whose work has captured my cakes over the years.

Their eye for light, detail and storytelling is what allows each design to be remembered long after the day.

You can find the page here:

And if you’re one of the photographers whose work appears on my website — thank you for capturing it so beautifully

Sometimes the inspiration for a wedding cake starts with the dress.
This beautiful style of bridal gown with the lace detail over the soft n**e fabric caught my eye when browsing Pinterest and this cake was my attempt to translate that feeling into sugar - layered, romantic and a little sculptural.
Swipe to see the gowns that inspired it.
