This isn't business related, but I've been thinking all week about the despicable and hateful behaviour that followed Sunday's football. Today I read a great post by , then tonight my son came home from Beavers saying they'd had a discussion about racism in the wake of the football; well done for having these important conversations with our young people. This led to a very useful discussion with him at home too.
Football is not my thing. If my husband didn't follow it, I'd probably have barely registered there was a tournament! But it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement of reaching a final, and to see the level of patriotism that has felt missing for some time. Of course it was disappointing the team lost, and it was easy to see the players had carried the weight of expectation on their shoulders only for it to come crashing down around them; you only have to read their own social media posts to understand how the feel.
But then something else happened. I honestly can't get my head round the things that were being written on social media about three incredible young men - barely even adults - who were brave enough to step up on the night and take those penalties. And suddenly it becomes a race issue? Racism has no place in our society, and I am pledging to do my bit to call out racism as I see it, and to educate myself and my son more on the subject and on how I can be more anti-racist. I have no room in my life for haters, and if you have actually managed to read all my rambling, and you agree with anything I've said, then you are very welcome on my page. And if not, I don't mind losing a few followers.
