Baker's Tannery Colyton Oak bark leather has been tanned at Baker's tannery on the banks of the River Coly since Roman times, with a process that has hardly changed for centuries.

The long slow tannage ensures that the natural fibres that make up a hide are allowed to remain in their natural weave. this produces a nice firm, hard wearing piece of leather, with good water resistance. Baker's leather is used for bespoke shoe-making and is also ideal for saddlery and harness leathers due to it's high tensile strength. The combination of the traditional tannage and currying process produces first class bridle, stirrup and harness leathers which are well known and popular throughout the saddlery, harness and leathergoods trades.

It’s always a proud moment when you see the finest items produced using some of our leathers.

Ooof! It’s a lovely bit of leather. At around 3mm thick it lends itself to many purposes.
