I will be giving up my position as coordinator in August. As sad as I am to do so (Im moving to Carlisle)I am so happy knowing the Wansbeck Group will continue in great hands. Lisa is a wonderful woman and is the perfect person for this role, being involved in it before. I look forward to our Summer Outing to Amble in July, where all of our fantastic volunteers will meet and go over the rest of the year!

Below is a photo of myself and Lisa at the Lord Lieutenant Dinner hosted at Alnwick Gardens on Volunteers Week.

πŸ’«πŸ’« VOLUNTEERS WEEK 1-7th JUNE πŸ’«πŸ’«
This week all over the UK, Volunteers are recognised for all they do.

I would personally like to thank all of the volunteer hosts and drivers that I am so fortunate, to have running this group each month. Without their ongoing commitment, a lovely group of elderly and otherwise lonely women would not get a much needed afternoon together, spent chatting and visiting different venues.

A few weekends ago, we held another of our fantastic Afternoon Teas at our Volunteer, Emma's house. Our next catch up, as it is always, will be the 2nd Sunday of the month!

If anyone knows an elderly person who lives alone and would benefit from such an outing once a month, please do get in touch as it is very easy to arrange.

A little about us...

My name is Samantha Richardson, and I am the Co-Ordinator for Contact the Elderly Wansbeck Group. I am here to support our volunteers in maintaining a fantastic service that runs nationwide. Ashington and Morpeth, have many over 75s living alone, with little to do and many without visitors. Whilst on maternity leave, I witnessed how lonely and sad living like this can be, when I volunteered to clean for an elderly woman. It was seeing this, that I have felt compelled in any way I can to help those in our community that can no longer help themselves. Immobility, lack of friends or family members around them, can often leave our elderly population not just feeling alone, but actually alone. Contact the Elderly are here to relieve some of that isolation, and provide a service that will involve collecting a guest, and driving him/her to a hosts home once a month. Here they will meet up with similar aged people, and enjoy a conversation and laugh over tea and coffee (and even cake!)
