Choc It Out

Choc It Out Chocolate & Candy Bar Reviews: Unite The World Through Chocolate! Choc It Out! loves Chocolate and a lot of people out there do too.

I want to find out what others think of the chocolate and confectionery that I love and rate them to help me decide which is the best. Together we can transcend cultural barriers to find common ground during these testing times.

Save the best till last? This edition of Galaxy Fusions may look like a bar of Caramac when unwrapped, but it is beyond that in taste. The blonde chocolate is a combination of white chocolate and caramel yes, but it's sea salt flavouring gives a nice extra kick. Not overpowering and genuinely a fusions of appearance and flavour this is probably my fave of the three Fusions releases. Have you tried them?

This 70% cocoa edition of Galaxy Fusions is something I'd keep on the sidelines as a change from my regular stash. Decent flavour and texture, not too bitter. Not sure really what the 'fusion' is as there are plenty of high cocoa lines out there which don't describe themselves as fusions, right?

Galaxy Fusions have been around all year and signified Mars' push to claw back ground on Cadbury after their disastrous 2020 (the Galaxy brand lost £31m). I generally prefer the 40-50g size bars than 100g blocks but if the flavours are good I can be swayed. This Raspberry Meringue is more raspberry than meringue and more dark chocolate than raspberry imo. With the exception of mint and orange I find other fruity flavours get lost in dark chocolate, as this one does. But at least it's the kind of choc you can keep on your tongue which I luuurrve.

Completing this little trilogy of Jaffa Cake delights is the new Jaffa Jonuts - yeah neat portmanteau, McVitie's 👌 The box art shows a glowing centre of oozy orange goodness, which was less incandescent in real life if truth be told don't ya think? However, if part of the allure of JCs is the smack of citrus fragrance you get when opening a pack, these won't let you down. The aroma lingers well after downing the goods, just put your nose back in the wrapper....
You get 4 individually wrapped Jonuts in a box - currently available at Tesco. Released just on Sunday 16th May, you'll likely see them in a prominent position and for the lower price of £1.50/box if you're a Tesco Clubcard holder.

Look closely and you'll see the Team GB logo on this 4-cake pack of Jaffas. I think McVities (and all other Proud Partners) had the designs ready for Tokyo 2020 pre-Covid and thought, well "just release them, there's no point in a redesign and the Olympics have to happen at SOME point".

Passion Fruit Jaffa Cakes: I am quite taken by the authentic flavour. I won't say it's as nice as the standard orange because passion fruit has the slightly bitter taste, but these are pretty darn accurate I reckon. Well done McVitie's!

What makes Mars choose to put a certain M&M'S USA flavour in a plastic wrapper versus a paper one? This is one of life's mysteries and needs answering.

It could be the weight of the contents couldn't it; or more to the point, the size of each m&m. These Almond flavour ones are pretty humongous compared to regular chocolate or even peanut flavours.

Not a bad taste but I think the sugar shell might overpower the nut a bit. If you've tried these, what do you think?

This concludes my m&m's odyssey; it's been a beautiful journey of flavour and crunchy colour.

I reckon being an artist for the M&M'S USA packet design is one of the best jobs out there. The Peanut Butter flavour is honoured with Red's quiff hair-do as a sculpted dollop of peanut butter. It took me a while to even notice it, but I think it's a hilarious stroke of simple genius.

Is it just me who thinks he looks a bit like a French artist or even a classical composer? Might be the eyebrows....

Eagle-eyed followers (and even those who are less eagle-eyed) will notice that it takes me a while to get through a collection of m&ms.

My final three packets are headed up by these little bad boys, the Caramel flavour.

I prefer caramel over toffee and these remind me a bit of a nicely temperate Rolo, which has the melt-ability to it. The caramel flavour hasn't perished despite my delayed munch on these.

The UK's Crispy M&Ms are commonly in blue packets, but here I have the US version. Similarly to the White Chocolate edition, I had to inspect the centre because these were surprisingly nicer on the buds than I remember. The crispy centre is sizeable but it was the chocolate inner which somehow made this pack a blockbuster. I couldn't stop eating them. Just as well there were plenty within the 180 calorie bag. I think these are what I wanted Kit Kat Pop Choc to be... Crispy has never been my go-to M&M, but I really should change that if these are representative of the UK edition.

White chocolate has always been a bit of a contradiction in terms. Chocolate contains cocoa solids which are extracted from the chocolate liquor produced from the nib of processed beans. The other extracted part of the liquor is cocoa butter, and it is this which is used in white chocolate.
Choc lesson over, what did I expect from these White Chocolate M&Ms? I was surprised how decent the white choc flavour was. I like it when the vanilla overwhelms all else and I got this feeling despite the shell. I was so impressed I had to look at the centre before I had none left. A healthy chunk of white choc shouldn't have surprised me!

If the Coffee Nut M&Ms were moreish, these Strawberry Nut ones are dangerous. I have a hit and miss relationship with strawberry flavoured treats because they can be sickly with flavouring overkill. But here the peanut yet again reins in the flavour, making me want more. It seems that Mars understands that repeating the action is bad for your calorie count, calling this a 'Share Size'. Ironic then that you are most unlikely to share it!
