I know I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again.
Your baby does not regress. They grow and develop and leap forward with their rapidly growing brains.
There are several ages where parents, and some professionals, might use this phrasing. A regression. Nah. I’m not down with that one bit.
The age I’ve chatted most this week is around four months. Babies become difficult to handle. They are suddenly super aware of the world around them and it’s fascinating. Meaning short, snacky, distracted feeds during the day which then leads to loads of feeding overnight when the world is quieter and less interesting. It’s exhausting, overwhelming as a parent; you’d just found a nice little rhythm to your life and now your baby has morphed into a whole new person!
As well as this new awareness of their surroundings they are also going through big changes in their sleep cycles, and nearly always need help to fall back to sleep as one cycle ends and another begins. With your responsiveness they will learn to do this on their own eventually.
So if you’re up in the night and knackered during the day please know that your baby is not broken, they do not need fixing. Your baby needs loving and feeding and rocking and shushing while you help them grow their amazing brain.
And please also know that this will not last forever, promise!
