🚨 You got us to double figures 🚨

We started with two.

Now we are at ten! ✨

Meet the students who are getting their schooling paid through coffee sales.

Left to right we have; Tazirwa, Mutisunge, Ruth, Florence, Hope (appears twice), Precious, Edijohn, Andrew. Chifundo & Wezi follow on.

Why do we do this?

Education past the age of 12 is not free in Malawi. This means education becomes a privilige and not a right. This limits potential.

It eases the pressure on families to find the cost of school fees. This means money can be spent on other essentials. A good thing.

Providing educational opportunities is a core principle of ours.

We are not stopping at ten. We have an ambitious project in the pipeline that you can be part of.

This week we started working with the fantastic Liv from Liv's Bakes and Cakes.

We were introduced by a mutual friend and instantly connected over our passion for quality artisan goods and great service.

Here I am conducting training with the team on dialing in the coffee through the espresso machine. This was a lot of fun: we got the workflow sorted and the shots were tasting incredible!

On a personal note I am delighted with this business pairing as it brings together a universally tried and tested combo.....

Great cake 🍰 and great coffee ☕

An update from MCC farm, high in the hills of Northern Malawi:

The Catimor and Geisha seedlings planted last year have taken really well and are growing as expected. They have benefited from the diligent care the MCC team have given them. The recent rains have definitely also helped!

The team on the farm are very experienced, and are about to oversee the planting of a further batch of Catimor and Geisha seedlings. We expect a small first harvest in 2026, with increasing yields year on year as the coffee grows in maturity.

On a personal note, It is a wonderful feeling to be working on the land my father first developed back in the 1990's. To have the opportunity to continue sustainability building & strengthening rural communities in our beloved Malawi is a real privilege.

Wani.

This is an exciting time of the year as the coffee harvesting season has come to a close in Malawi. The focus now turns to ensuring the coffee (in parchment form) has been properly prepared as it makes its way for hulling, the final stage before it will be bagged and exported to the UK.

The images show the coffee being weighed prior to the bags being sewn and readied for transporting. Also, the parchment coffee, which is yelowish in colour and ready to undergo its last bit of processing.

This coffee will be arriving into the UK early 2024 and ready for retail/wholesale soon after.

This has been in the offing for a while and it's something we're really proud of:

We planted our own Gesha and Catimor seedlings in March, in the highlands of Northern Malawi (the views are breath-taking). With sustainability driving many business and consumer decisions, and ours, we had to utilise the opportunity to make this the backbone of our offering. First harvest of our own coffee will be in 2026. It's a while away but we invite you to come on the journey with us, and what a journey it promises to be!

The longer term mission is to adopt creative methods of processing and really put Malawi on the speciality coffee map - think bigger flavour profiles to accompany the already excellent quality.

We've also been working hard to source new relationships with growers and we're excited by the coffees they will be providing for you.

We had the pleasure of supporting a number of players with a trip to the capital city, Lilongwe to meet world tennis star,
He was in town continuing to promote the work his foundation has started in Malawi.

An occasion like this serves (no pun intended) to raise aspirations and place Malawi in the spotlight which is a very important aspect of our wider work.

🚨 New Product Alert 🚨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re really stoked to introduce our new Catuai / Geisha blend. Both varietals are grown high up on the Livingstonia Plateau, overlooking the beautiful Lake Malawi. We have chosen this blend as the natural sweetness of the Catuai and the more delicate notes of the Geisha come together in beautiful alchemy to deliver a coffee that develops on the palate into lasting notes of tangerine and macadamia.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We were so happy with the label created by for our Kalibu range that we commissioned him once again to design our latest label - I hope you agree he hasn’t disappointed! Vibrant, abstract but unmistakably Malawian - and of course bang on the nostalgia zeitgeist. Still only 18 he’s one to watch for sure in Malawi’s burgeoning art scene.
