Wilden May Day Fayre

Wilden May Day Fayre Wilden May Day Fayre is a tradition going back some 40 years in the village of Wilden, Bedfordshire.

The tradition of May Day goes back many hundreds of years but since 1970 something the village of Wilden have hosted a May Day Fayre on the early May bank holiday Monday comprising the crowning of the May Queen and since 2013 (TBC) the May King too, attended by their bodyguards and May attendants. The event also includes traditional May Pole dancing and country dancing before the Fayre is opened f

or the important business of selling of books, cakes, country produce, plants and all manner of goodies. It is also home of the Grand Draw with many substantially prizes given out over the years, and the hugely popular children's games. The format largely stays the same each year but keep a close eye out for the up to date events taking part each year!

Hi Folks!
Well, it's been a while but we are making tentative steps to deciding whether we can lay on a Coronation themed May Day for this year.. final decision to follow, BUT YOU CAN HELP!

Please let us know if you'd like to see this event happening and whether you are willing and able to help in anyway? We are always appreciative of the support given in donations and attendance, but ideas and organisation are also very much in need!

Many thanks and fingers crossed 🀞🀞

Hi All,

May thanks for your patience with the May Day team. As covid continues to do its thing, due to concerns and unfortunately a lack of time on the committee's part as our priorities have change over the last couple of years, we have had to make the sad decision to once again cancel this lovely occasion.

We really hope it will return, perhaps next year, but in order to do so we would really appreciate it if any one would like to help by joining the committee and sharing the work load. More there are, the easier it gets! This will hopefully ensure its return is more likely to happen 🀞 Please get in touch if you'd like to help plan next year's event 😁

I would also like to add that all is not lost - St. Nicholas Church in Wilden is celebrating 800 years this year along side the Queen's Jubilee, so watch out for lots of village events celebrating this momentous occasion (OK, I admit it, that's in part what the committee have also been up to!)

Thank you for your support over the years, and look forward to hopefully returning with a flourish very soon!! Please watch this space πŸ˜€

Afternoon All,

On a very soggy grey January day, I would love to be able to regale you all with words of how far the planning is going towards this year's May Day Fayre but it is great sadness that I actually have to report that once again the committee feels that in these uncertain times it is just not appropriate to go ahead for May 2021. 😒 Whilst the rollout of the vaccine is wonderfully encouraging news, May is felt to be too soon to be planning large gatherings even if guidelines will allow (and who knows on even that score! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ)

So on that note, we are putting our minds to May Day 2022 when it coincides with St. Nicholas Church's 800 year anniversary so we plan to be back with style to incorporate that celebration. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ So keep checking back, watch this space as the year goes on for more news ☺️

Take care all, stay safe and hope to see you all again soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Well hello all our followers. I'm so sorry for the delay in communications leading up to May Day 2020 but there have been a looooooot of conversations happening before Christmas in light of the move of the bank holiday from the Monday to Friday about what we were going to do. We had got as far as knowing we wanted to do something to mark 75th VE Day in place of May Day but no further.

Just as things were warming up again this pesky virus has now thwarted that idea 🀬

So, just so you don't all think we have forgotten our beloved annual tradition, it is with sadness and reluctance but a hearty dose of realism and concern for all, we are formally announcing that May Day 2020 in whatever form it was going to take, will no longer be happening 😭

Stay tuned as hopefully 2021 will come back bigger and stronger than ever πŸ˜„

Stay healthy, stay safe.

For those missing May Day already, something to keep you going!!

Well, another year has been and gone and we can all look back with a sense of achievement at the wonderful day.

The weather held, the children were fantastic in their dancing, the VIPeas and MK Acapella Chorus were great, chatting to as many as I could the mood was happy - what more could we ask for?!

Thank you to all who helped in any way shape or form - from set up to take down, to donation of time, resources, prizes, items, energy, ideas, and perhaps most importantly to those who came. We hope you all had as good a day as we did... until next year, we thank you all
