~Doughnut Demo~
Its been a long time since I did anything like this. I haven’t done a demo since before the pandemic happened, so it’s been a while, and the first time I’ll be showing anyone how I make my doughnuts. I am a little nervous about it. 🙈 If you’d like to spend next Saturday afternoon with me showing you how to make your own doughnuts, you can book at just outside Carmarthen.
The demo will be at 2pm, Saturday 14th May. I’ll show you how to make your dough, shape your doughnuts, make a couple of my most popular fillings, show you how to fry them and how to fill them nicely. You can ask lots of questions as we go along, I do love a chat 😂 and I’ll make sure I have plenty of tasters for you.

~Bird Kitchen clothing~
I’ve long been a fan of Vicky’s brand since she launched a few years ago. Beautiful chefs garments and aprons designed to fit and flatter us ladies, but also be super practical and comfortable. Why shouldn’t we look and feel fabulous in the kitchen? The way I see it, I rarely get a chance to dress up, so why shouldn’t I have a gorgeous apron that makes me feel 💃🏼
It’s like putting on a pretty dress! I always take my denim Heron apron with me to the Bertinet kitchen, because Bath is dead posh and I need to make an effort 😂

Banana & chocolate Cake~ 🍌 There’s been a lot of bananas this week! This is the third banana based cake! I don’t know what’s going on. This one was a special birthday cake, the birthday boy requested a banana and chocolate cake for his 70th. I always get a bit stressy about cake decorating, especially when it comes to man cakes 😂 I checked in with my dad last night, as a man, if this was appropriate! His reply “As a man, I would enjoy that although I am only 66 😂👍X” He’s always my go to for advice 😁 Inside layers of banana cake with chocolate chips, covered in dark chocolate frosting, some fancy swirly piping, milk chocolate leaves, banana chips and some chocolate crumb for a bit of crunch. Quite fancy a slice of this one myself. 🤎

~ Salted Honey & Tahini tart~
There’s been lots of pastry/tart action in work this week. I bloody love pastry! One of this weeks offerings on the counter .and.provision is this salted honey tahini tart, I’m not sure if Llandeilo is ready for tahini 😂 but we’ll find out this weekend. I remember making this a few years ago and it was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted, but in a good way 👌🏻 sweet, salty and rich. I’m hoping I might be able to sneak a slice later on if no one is looking 👀

~Angle cake~ A very cakey week and another retro classic given a bit of a revamp. I had to go buy a pack of angle cake slices, purely for research purposes of course (I ate them all!) Turns out it’s pretty much vanilla cake and vanilla frosting. So to make it special enough for birthday cake it got the fancy recipe treatment, white cake recipe which is a beautiful light cake, and perfect for taking on those pretty pastel shades, then super luxurious vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream to fill the layers. Decorated with a halo of meringues, because she’s an angel 👼🏼 💛💗🤍

~Black Forest~ One of this weeks cakes. I do love a Black Forest gâteau, I can remember having those retro frozen ones for my birthday! This is definitely an upgrade from that 90’s version. Layers of ’s chocolate cake, which is now my favourite chocolate cake 🤎 brushed with chocolate syrup, filled with sour Cherry compote and Chantilly cream and smothered in milk chocolate ganache! I still get super stressy with cake decorating anxieties, but I’m happy with how this turned out. The baking part doesn’t phase me, but looking at a blank cake does, I get myself in such a pickle overthinking how to make it look 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I overthink everything so it’s not really surprising!
