πŸ”΄ Wear Red Day 2026 πŸ”΄

On Friday 16 October, UNISON Aberdeen City will proudly support Show Racism the Red Card's Wear Red Day.

By wearing something red, we can stand together against racism and show our commitment to equality, dignity and respect for all.

As trade unionists, we believe everyone deserves to be treated fairly and with respect. Racism has no place in our workplaces, our communities or our society.

Join us on Wear Red Day and help send a clear message that Aberdeen stands together against racism.

2026 is the 12th Anniversary of Wear Red Day. A landmark that we are incredibly proud of. Our first celebration in 2014 saw 7,000 people registering to take part. In 2024, that figure had exploded to become 710,000 participants celebrating with us.

πŸ’š World Mental Health Day 2026 πŸ’š

This year's theme, "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change", is a powerful reminder that lasting change happens when workers are listened to and their experiences are valued.

At UNISON Aberdeen City, we represent members delivering vital public services across Aberdeen every day.

We know that heavy workloads, workplace pressures, financial concerns and the impact of challenging roles can all affect mental health and wellbeing.

As trade unionists, we believe that mental health is not just an individual issue. It is a workplace issue. No one should feel afraid to speak up about their wellbeing, and every worker deserves dignity, respect and support at work.

This World Mental Health Day, we stand with our members and reaffirm our commitment to fighting for healthy workplaces, challenging stigma, supporting those experiencing mental ill health, and ensuring workers' voices are heard in decisions that affect them.

Because when workers are listened to, workplaces improve.

Real Voices. Real Change. Together we are stronger

"The strength of the union is the members. The strength of our members is in knowing they are never alone." πŸ’š

Working in health or social care or living with someone who has a weakened immune system?

You may be eligible for a free flu vaccination due to the important role you play in supporting people who could be at greater risk from flu.

Getting vaccinated can help protect both you and the people you live/work with, particularly during the busy winter season.

It's important to remember that having the flu vaccine is a personal choice.

If you're considering it, take some time to look at the information available and decide what's best for you.

e-balloting for pay campaign 2027/28

The Local Government Committee continues their preparation work for the 2027/28 pay campaign, and part of this is preparing for the new e-balloting rules that were introduced on 31st August 2026.

The national union has confirmed that UNISON members will not be able to use their employers email address for e-balloting purposes, this means anyone who HAS NOT given UNISON their personal email address will only receive a paper ballot through the post for any future ballots, and as we know, a lot of those paper ballots, for whatever reason, do not get posted back πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

UNISON needs to maximise our ballot return, so we are asking all members to please ensure you have provided UNISON with your up to date personal email address so you can click and use YOUR vote.

Please use the QR CODE pictured to update your details, don't miss out β˜‘οΈ

UNISON has lodged its 2027/28 pay claim and is pressing for negotiations to begin as soon as possible.

With council elections approaching and major discussions taking place around Public Sector Reform, there is a risk of delays. That's why it's important that local government workers make their voices heard early.

βœ… Fair pay
βœ… A timely settlement
βœ… Support for workers through future changes

A consultative ballot is likely to open in October. Please make sure UNISON has your up-to-date PERSONAL email address so you can have your say.

Together we're stronger.
