🎃🏆 WELL… THAT WAS A GOOD DAY AT FORRES! 🏆🎃

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along to the Forres Family Market on Sunday, stopped for a blether, admired our creations and took some of them off to their forever homes. 🧡

And somehow… we only went and won 1st PRIZE in the Halloween competition!! 👻🤣 Which means we’ve bagged ourselves a FREE STALL at our next Forres market! 🥳 thank you Kay & Liz 🩷

Clearly all that spooky effort paid off… although judging by the face of my little assistant, I’m not entirely sure she was as impressed with our victory as I was. 🤣🐾

So… where are we off to next?

🎃👻 SPOOKY SEASON HAS ARRIVED AT COPPER HUE! 👻🎃

We said we were taking a wee break from markets to get the workshop stocked back up…

Apparently we lied 😬🤣

Because when the lovely Forres ladies Kay & Liz announce a Halloween market, how could we possibly resist?! 🧡

We’re all set up and ready to go at Forres Family Market today, and we’ve brought plenty of weird, wonderful and one-of-a-kind Copper Hue creations along with us. 💡✨

The gazebo has had its spooky makeover 🕸️🎃, the lights are glowing, the skeleton has taken up residence with a sweetie bucket for the little & big kids 💀 and most importantly…

🧙‍♀️ our little witch is on gazebo security duty! 🐾😂
Approach with caution — she may cast a spell on you… although realistically she’s probably just after snacks. 🐶🤣

🍂🎄 WHERE TO FIND COPPER HUE THIS AUTUMN & CHRISTMAS! 🧡✨

Well… our planned “6 week break from markets” is going brilliantly. 🤣🙈

The idea was simple — give Gary plenty of uninterrupted workshop time to MAKE, MAKE, MAKE and build up an abundance of stock for the festive season.

Then Forres Family Halloween Market came along for 4th October…..and apparently we have absolutely no willpower. 😂🎃👻

So here it is — our rather busy looking diary for the next few months! 👀

From Halloween fun 🎃 to castles 🏰, Christmas markets 🎄 and festive fairs, we’ll be bringing lots of brand-new Copper Hue creations along for the ride.

And with Laea taking charge of a couple of events herself, there might even be occasions when Gary and I are in one place while Copper Hue is somewhere else entirely! 🤣🧡

Save the poster, pop your favourites in the diary and come say hello — we’d absolutely love to see you. 🥰, Now… back to the workshop, Gary, you’ve got ONE JOB. 🤣🤣

✨LYNN S. | THE RE*****ON REBORN 🔥

Some Copper Hue pieces start with an idea.

This one started with a bit of a rescue mission.

What arrived at Copper Hue HQ was the surviving stock and action of an old E. Re*****on & Sons side-by-side sh***un, carrying the name “Lynn S.” and all the knocks, marks and character you’d expect from something that has already lived a very long life.

From the markings and serial number, we believe her story stretches back to the 1880s, when Re*****on was producing these old side-by-sides in Ilion, New York.

Unfortunately, somewhere between then and now, Lynn met a gentleman we have affectionately christened Grinder McBastard. 😳

In the process of decommissioning her, the original barrels had been brutally cut away, leaving very little ahead of the action and one fairly sorry-looking old Re*****on.

We couldn’t undo what had been done.

But we could perform a little Copper cosmetic surgery. 😏

A hand-shaped timber transition piece was made to rebuild the missing profile and marry the surviving Re*****on into a completely new set of “barrels”: two lengths of polished 22mm copper, retaining that unmistakable side-by-side silhouette.

Add a beautiful piece of live-edge timber, some sympathetic restoration rather than trying to erase 140-ish years of life, a pair of lights up top… and Lynn S. gets another chapter.

She’ll never fire another shot.

But she’ll certainly light up a room. 💡

From an old piece that could very easily have ended up forgotten in a box, to something that celebrates what survived rather than mourning what didn’t.

Old scars. New barrels. New purpose.

That’ll do, Lynn. That’ll do. 🧡

Gary tells me daily, even my pals & other stall holders tell me this too so I’m actually considering getting it tattooed on me at this point…🤷🏻‍♀️

“YOU HAD ONE JOB.” 🤣🤣

And this post is a perfect example of why. 🙈

A few months ago, the lovely Mark Edwards from Edwards Blinds and Interiors in Aberdeen got in touch after seeing our Copper Hue creations and invited us to have a selection displayed in his showroom, where customers can also purchase them. 🥰

I took the photos. ✔️
I planned the post. ✔️
I was going to tell you all about it. ✔️
I actually posted it… NOPE. ❌🙈

So, several months late, we can finally say that you’ll find a selection of Copper Hue creations at Edwards Blinds & Interiors, looking rather at home amongst Mark’s gorgeous displays. 💡🧡

A massive thank you to Mark for reaching out, supporting another local business and giving our creations a place in his showroom. It really does mean a lot to us 🥰

🥃✨ A VERY SPECIAL COPPER HUE COMMISSION…

Remember our trip to Edinburgh? Well, we can finally show you one of the finished pieces that we delivered 🧡

This one was created especially for Andrew at Skene Scotch Wh**ky Ltd — featuring their Skene Dhu wh**ky, and of course Gary being Gary, simply incorporating the bottle was never going to be enough. 🤣

Copper still, pipework, illuminated Skene Dhu bottle… and then there’s that wee barrel. 🥹

That barrel actually started life as a solid block of wood! Gary turned, shaped and detailed it by hand to create exactly what he wanted for the finished piece — swipe through to see it taking shape in the workshop. 🪵🛠️

We love creating our tipsy light pieces, but there’s something extra special about being trusted to make something specifically for another business and incorporating a little bit of their story into ours.

🐝 FROM SMOKE SIGNALS TO BRIGHT IDEAS 💡

Well… this was an unusual one, even by Copper Hue standards.

We stumbled across this wonderful old copper beekeeper’s smoker, looking considerably less shiny than it does now.

In its former life, the wooden bellows forced air through smouldering material inside the chamber, sending smoke through that long copper nozzle. Beekeepers used the smoke to help calm the colony while working around the hive.

And judging by the soot we found inside…

this old girl definitely earned her keep. 🐝💨

Years of grime and oxidation had hidden almost all of that beautiful copper, so we carefully stripped her down, cleaned and restored the original body, timber base and fittings, while keeping plenty of the knocks, dents and scars that tell her story.

Then came the obvious question…

What can Copper Hue do for you?

Well, where smoke once came out…

light now comes out. 💡

A rather splendid oversized vintage-style bulb, brass fittings, rewired, rebuilt and, because we occasionally pretend to be responsible adults…

PAT tested and passed first time. 👌🤣

We even retained the original hinged smoker lid and as much of the original hardware as we could.

And naturally, every old beekeeper’s smoker converted into a lamp requires appropriate operating instructions:

From calming bees to lighting rooms.

Once made smoke. Now makes light.

Another forgotten piece of working history rescued from retirement and given a completely new job.

And we reckon this one is absolutely…

We’re on the rails and Edinburgh bound this morning! 🚆

A couple of very special custom Copper Hue creations are travelling with us, ready to be delivered to their new homes. 🥰

There’s something extra lovely about a commission — taking someone’s idea (or treasured piece!) and turning it into something completely unique just for them. 💡✨

So today it’s tools down, workshop abandoned and a wee adventure to the capital for the Copper Hue duo! 😂

And yes… Gary has been allowed out in public. 🤣🧡

Some things deserve another shot… 🔥

Somewhere around the late 1950s or early 1960s, this beautifully figured stock formed part of a Webley & Scott Mk3 air r***e, made in Birmingham during the golden years of British manufacturing.

Decades later, the r***e itself is gone. What survived was its walnut stock, complete with the scars, wear and even a substantial crack from its former life. Whether that crack was what finally brought its shooting days to an end, we’ll probably never know.

Fortunately, somebody appears to have decommissioned this one rather more sympathetically than Grinder McBastard. Perhaps his sister. 🤣

We couldn’t put it back into service.

So we gave it another shot.

A little walnut.
Quite a lot of copper.
A piece of live-edge oak.
And a completely different purpose almost 70 years later 🧡
