We portray a company or ‘Fähnlein’ of professional mercenaries. Accompanied by their wives and children, as well as a veritable horde of unmarried women and artisans, these soldiers were constantly on the road – moving from battlefield to bloody battlefield armed with the latest in swords, pikes, halberds, and gunpowder weapons in the search of glory and riches. Our group strives to relive this re
latively unexplored chapter of history, focusing in particular on their role in Danish history. We do not aim to simply entertain our audience with characters and spectacles. Rather, our goal is to create an accurate and believable representation of daily life the way these colourful men and women would have experienced it. From the way they baked their bread and cooked their meals, to the elaborate dress and lethal weapons they carried on their long marches across all of Europa – our work is based on a considerable knowledge of the period, as well as pioneering research. We would like to share this view of living history with partners and visitors, giving them a truthful glimpse into the past, as well as a chance to experience first-hand the many crafts and tools of war at our disposal. FRF is based in Aarhus, Denmark, founded in 2009 and named after Aarhus’ partner city of Rostock. Our ranks consist of professional archeologists and eager enthusiasts, all with an active interest in history and working towards achieving the level of quality we strive for in everything we do.
