🏆 THE WINNER OF THE CRUSHGRIND® CRAFT AWARDS 2026 🏆

This year’s winner is Entry #15: Jonathan and his son, Kieran from in Canada.

Craft Awards has always been about more than making a beautiful grinder. 50% of our judging is based on the story behind the piece, and Jonathan and Kieran shared one that stayed with us.

Kieran is autistic, and the workshop has become a place where father and son work side by side, building skills and making things together.

When Jonathan says Kieran does roughly half the work on their pens, bowls and spice mills, he means it. Kieran helps rough out the mills, prepares blanks and is part of the process from start to finish.

Their entry reminded us that craftsmanship can be about much more than the finished object. It can create time together, build confidence and strengthen the connection between people.

And perhaps that is what touched us most.

Because whether it happens around the lathe, in the kitchen or around the table, making and sharing something together has a way of bringing us closer 💕

Congratulations, Jonathan and Kieran. You are the winners of Craft Awards 2026!

They will receive 50 Crushgrind® mechanisms worth €540 for many more projects together.

🥈 Second place: #2, Clément Douard, “Basalte”
A strong story paired with an exceptionally original design and magnificent craftsmanship. What began as an imperfection in the wood became the inspiration for an entirely new creative direction.

🥉 Third place: #8, Andreas Dach
We loved the idea of giving an old porcelain tap handle a completely new purpose. That curiosity, creativity and reuse of something easily overlooked really spoke to us.

Clément and Andreas will also receive a small recognition gift from Crushgrind®.

And to all 20 makers who entered this year: THANK YOU! You made judging INCREDIBLY difficult, in the very best way 🥰

Now give our 2026 winners, Jonathan and Kieran, some very well-deserved love in the comments 🩷🎉

Here they are: the five finalists of the Crushgrind® Craft Awards 2026 🙌

Choosing from this year’s 20 entries was no easy task. We’ve seen mills shaped by memories, experimentation, technical challenges, unexpected materials and some seriously creative thinking at the lathe.

After going through every entry, these are the five moving on to the final:

🏆 #2 | Clément Douard, “Basalte” (France)
An imperfection in the wood became the starting point for a completely new texture, inspired by the volcanic landscape of Auvergne.

🏆 #8 | Andreas Dach, "Peppermill with a second life" (Germany)
An old porcelain water-tap handle given a second life, paired with smoked oak in a mill built around the idea of seeing new possibilities in old objects.

🏆 #15 | Jonathan and son, (Canada)
A deeply personal father-and-son workshop story about building skills, working side by side and creating something together.

🏆 #18 | Deon J. Breytenbach, “Travel Buddies” (South Africa)
Two mills turned from one piece of Red bushwillow, held together with magnets and designed for 4x4 adventures through Africa. A clever idea with plenty of technical problem-solving behind it.

🏆 #20 | Mark Wilkins, “Dovecote Pepper Mill” (New Zealand)
The winner of - New Zealand’s international competition, earning Mark a direct place in our final with his wonderfully detailed, weathered dovecote design.

A huge congratulations to all five finalists, and an equally huge thank you to every woodturner who shared their work and stories with us this year ❤️

Now we want to hear from you: who is your favourite? Tell us in the comments by writing #2, #8, #15, #18 or #20 👇

Your votes won’t decide the winner, that job belongs to the Crushgrind® judging team, but we’d love to see which piece has won over the community.

September can keep its grey skies. The kitchen does not have to follow along 😏

We are very much in favour of colour on the table, too much seasoning and refusing to make Monday dinner look like Monday dinner.

Billund comes in four moods here. We could pretend choosing a favourite is easy, but... 😅

Which is your favorite? 💛💚🤎🤍

Today is a very special day in the Crushgrind® family ❤️

Our founder, Ken Lassen, and his wife are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary: 60 years of marriage.

If you know Ken, you know he has never been someone who does things halfway. When he believes in something, he commits. Fully. With determination, curiosity and a fair amount of stubbornness along the way 😉

But 60 years together is, of course, a story written by two people.

It is thousands of ordinary days. Changes, challenges, celebrations, family dinners, disagreements, laughter, and choosing to keep building a life together through all of it.

These wedding photographs from 60 years ago give us a beautiful glimpse into the day it all began. And receiving congratulations from His Majesty the King of Denmark makes this already remarkable anniversary even more memorable.

At Crushgrind®, we talk a lot about things that are made to last. Today, those words mean something much bigger...

Ken and Gurli, congratulations on 60 years together. From all of us ❤️

Please join us in wishing them a very happy diamond anniversary 🤵🏻‍♂️👰🏼‍♀️💒💕

You know when someone says: “Come as you are 😊 Don’t bring anything”?

But it just doesn’t feel right to come empty handed 😅

So instead of another bottle or bouquet, bring something that can become part of their kitchen. A self-watering pot with fresh basil is useful straight away, looks good on the table, and keeps giving long after dinner is over.

It also takes about two minutes to turn it into a really lovely gift: add their favourite herb, tie a ribbon around it, done 👏

🌿Save this idea for the next time someone tells you not to bring anything 😉

A little throwback to this Wednesday 💛

W**e tasting, games, good food and lots of laughs. Just a regular Wednesday… kind of 😉

At Crushgrind, we love finding reasons to gather around good taste and good company 🥰

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone 💃🕺

A few days late, but still worth sharing 💛

3 Days of Design was spent walking, talking, getting inspired, and occasionally stopping to say: “Wait… you need to see this - there’s a Crushgrind mechanism in that one too 😉”

One of the best things about 3 Days of Design is seeing how many talented people we get to call partners, customers, collaborators, and friends.

We came home with tired feet, full camera rolls, and lots of new ideas.

That’s a pretty good day if you ask us 🥰

A lot of people love the idea of fresh herbs. Fewer people want another thing to manage at home 😅

That is exactly why we like things that make everyday flavour easier, not more complicated. Fresh basil within reach. Thyme ready when dinner needs a little help. A pot that helps keep it all alive without asking for too much back.

Because better cooking often comes down to very small things. Not fancy things. Just the right things, close by 🪴

A little Thursday throwback from earlier this week 👯

We joined a local event on Tuesday evening ☀️ some ran, some walked 😄 But mostly it was just about getting outside together, enjoying the weather and having a good time as a team 💛
