✨🍁Who else loves baking in the fall?🍁✨
As soon as those intense summer temperatures start to drop, the heat in our ovens get turned up!
In honor of the Oktoberfest that would have been wrapping up this week, and because we love any excuse to try a new recipe, see below how to make the BEST gingerbread cookies.
(Tip: Try making it into a heart and decorating it with some frosting like the ones they sell at the festival)
What you need:
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
- 6 tbs of unsalted butter (or omit the addition of salt if all you have is salted butter)
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup molasses (or alternatively, 1/4 cup honey + 1/4 cup more brown sugar)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
Whisk together the dry ingredients in a small bowl, then in a big bowl beat together the butter, brown sugar and egg until blended smoothly.
Add in the molasses and vanilla; mix well.
Once smooth, divide dough in half, wrap in plastic, and let stand at room temperature for 2-8 hours.
When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Sprinkle flour over a flat surface and roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it’s about 1/4 inch thick. Use flour when needed to avoid sticking.
Use a heart cookie cutter (or any shape you’d like!) and space the cookie dough evenly on the baking sheet.
Bake one sheet at a time for 7-9 minutes, then take them out to cool and enjoy! Decorations optional but very much encouraged (:
