GUESS WHAT?? WE’RE BACK! 🥐 The Pie Bar reopens Friday, September 11!

Turns out closing your bakery for the two busiest months of the year is a *slightly questionable* business strategy. 😂

But, like last summer, I chose to be Mom first.

Five kids. One very short summer. And a sourdough and pastry bakery that I crossed my fingers would still have customers when September rolled around.

And somehow… You are all still here. ❤️

Thank you for every message asking when I’d be baking again, every “we miss your croissants,” and most of all, for being so incredibly patient while I stepped away to enjoy valuable time with my family… because, let’s face it! The reason why this bakery is here is because of all of them!

Running a small bakery only works when you have customers who understand there’s an actual human behind it… one who happens to have FIVE other small humans behind her! 😂

I’m incredibly grateful you gave me the space to have this time with my family, yet again, without making me feel like I had to choose between being present with them and keeping this little bakery alive.

But school is back in.

Like… ALL FIVE OF THEM?!

So apparently my summer-mom era is over and my baker era is back. 😂🥐

I’ve missed you. I’ve missed baking. I’ve missed sourdough, croissants, French pastry and making an absolutely ridiculous mess of this kitchen.

The struggle is sometimes real, friends. 😂

Side note: I came home from second-year university and proudly showed my parents that I had learned to solve a Rubik’s Cube in under 30 seconds.

Nothing reassures parents about the tens of thousands of dollars they’re spending on your engineering education quite like, “LOOK HOW FAST I CAN DO THIS CUBE.” 😂

Money well spent, Mom and Dad. Money. Well. Spent.

That time of year has rolled around again… the annual balancing act between business owner and mom.

The bakery will be taking a little summer break for the next few weeks while we press pause on work and spend some much-needed time making memories with our five young children. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, but hope you’ll understand just how important this time together is.

While we’re taking a break, our wonderful wholesale partners will continue to be stocked with pastries, pies, butter tarts, and other favourites, so if a craving strikes, I’d love for you to support these amazing local small businesses. I’d like to formally blame my husband for the existence of this bakery.

I was a perfectly respectable structural engineer with a stable career… until one day he said, “You should bake me some muffins.”

In hindsight, that was a wildly irresponsible suggestion.

One batch of muffins somehow snowballed into pies, sourdough, croissants, 3:00 a.m. alarms, and a full-time bakery in our back yard. Honestly, I don’t think either of us saw that coming.

Turns out I traded calculating load paths for calculating hydration percentages… and, honestly, the croissants are a lot more demanding than concrete ever was.

(But don’t tell him… I absolutely love this life. I’d hate for him to think this whole thing was his idea. We simply can’t let that go to his head. 😉)
