The Pantry

The Pantry Bakery and Local Fares shop as organic as possible and as local as possible. Closed Since COVID Hello my name is Brigitte. Our kitchen is coming together nicely.

I ran The Pantry for 3 years until we got hit by Covid. We loved our little café and bakery mostly because of our clients. It was a home-away-from-home for a great many community members and truly our passion was to feed everyone healthy, homemade meals made with ingredients from our wonderful local producers and our very own farm, Hazelwood Gardens. I have moved my energies to my own farm, Hazelw

ood Gardens, where my family and myself grow well.....hazel nuts ( at the moment they are still growing, not producing much yet) , we make maple syrup and we grow oodles of garlic and all kinds of produce. We intend to keep with the idea of producing foods with as local and as organic as possible as well as partnering with our local farmers to source whatever we don't grow ourselves. Currently we are finalizing the last details in our commercial kitchen. It will be given the seal of approval by the EOHU before we start using it. We are reusing as much of The Pantry equipment and such as possible so it brings that wonderful energy to the place :)
We will be offering breads, sweets by order, soups and such. We may even start up selling our lotions and potions again ( soaps, balms, creams made with local harvested ingredients). We want to be a hub for local goodness once more. We are surrounded by bounty and want to share!! Please understand that our farm is a private home. We are happy to schedule pick ups, but we are not a petting zoo as we are not zoned or insured for such. That doesn't mean that if you come to pick up an order you won't catch a glimpse of the bountiful inhabitants, furry and feathered, of the farm however as they roam pretty freely and are living their best lives.

Something is happening at The Ole Pantry ... 🤫

You might have noticed the light behind the mismatched curtains.

We get the questions every day, but some secrets are better left to grow in the dark.
We’ve spent years back at our farm, Hazelwood Gardens rooted in the soil, learning what it means to be truly local. Now, some of that energy is finding its way back to these four walls in the village.

It isn’t what it was before. It’s something deeper. 🌿✨

The curtains stay closed for now. We aren't ready to show you what's rising, but we promise—it’s worth the wait.

Watch the windows. Listen. 🥖🛰️

Hello everyone!
It's been a while....I miss your smiles and chitchatting with everyone. Pulling open the curtains in the morning... and seeing all the bustle on Main Street.
As most of you know, I have been dedicating my time to my family farm. I love growing the ingredients of the meals that I make.

I hope that some of you have had the pleasure of shopping at Retro Love that moved in at the front of the ole' Pantry.
That being said, if you are curious to see what has happened at the back of the building, we're having an open house at The Matte Boutique Inn. We decided to honor the history of the building by naming our short term rental after the first time and long time owners of this beautiful historic building.
This coming Saturday, during The Vankleek Hill Christmas Home Tour we will show off all of Grace's hard work in creating a one-of-a-kind sumptuous, cozy spot for out-of-towners to rest and relax after a long day of shopping and meandering our little town.

We will have a set-up on the terrace, Val may even have a go at making some amandines for old times' sake. We will have garlic , a few lovely braids, black garlic and, if there's enough interest ( and volunteers) , I may even bring a few pawpaws to taste. Thomas and Mel will have the last few gift jars of their award-winning honey.

We're lucky enough to be sharing the space with Soul kissed Sweets and their fabulous and tantalizing treats. Nauru, baker and owner, splits her time between baking for a popular Ottawa bakery and baking for her own clients.

As an especially tasty treat, The Chocolate Box of Vankleek Hill will be on site to serve you some delicious hand made chocolates. Expect Hannah to excite your senses with her melt-in-your mouth creations.

We hope to see you there!
