After their operations were disrupted by the pandemic Danielz Bread is back in business and will be featured in the next Bedford Bag!

Gabi Foss here, born and raised on Douglas Avenue. I grew up going for “Yonge Street Walks” with my friends after school. I would happily fork out my babysitting earnings for fresh baguettes from Patisserie Sebastien, tearing away at the warm crust as we strolled past the shops.
A lot has changed since those days. I moved away for school, graduated with a business degree, and started full-time work at a nonprofit. However, some things never change. Like my love of fresh bread, or a desire to sample the best of what local entrepreneurs have to offer.
A few weeks ago, a good friend in Waterloo started an initiative called Homegrown Local Box: a one-time delivery of a curated collection of baked goods and specialty products from vendors in her neighbourhood. This served as an opportunity for community members to support and celebrate small businesses, while enjoying treats that are otherwise less accessible during isolation.
After learning about the success of Homegrown Local Box, and how positive an experience it was for both the vendors and recipients, I released a survey to a number of community Facebook groups to gauge interest in bringing the idea to Yonge & Lawrence. I was thrilled to receive over fifty responses, and from there, Bedford Bag was born.
I am currently speaking with a number of local businesses to create an assortment of items (informed by the survey results, of course) that is sure to delight. Stay tuned for an announcement of the vendors to be included in the upcoming Bedford Bag, but the exact items will remain a surprise! I look forward to opening sales in a few days.
