Hi! I’m Amy! I’m the proud owner of The Jubilee Bakeshop!
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a lifelong resident of Delta. I am a descendant of the Halladay family; my husband Mike is from the Gray family. Both of our families are rooted deep in heritage, here in Delta.
I hold a Masters Degree in Criminology from the University of Ottawa; Mike holds a teaching degree from Queens University and has been a member of the Local 401 Plumbers & Pipe-fitters Union for over 25 years. He’s also a very talented and skilled welder.
We live on a 9 acre hobby farm, just on the outskirts of town. We are avid animal lovers and fun seekers, spending a lot of time outside enjoying and engaging in various activities.
We also own a sawmill and enjoy making rustic decor and furniture as a hobby.
Family is our number one priority, having both come from very close knit families. We genuinely love spending time with our loved ones.
Although owning and operating a bakeshop was always a passion of mine, it was never really something I ever pursued seriously, until I sustained a serious back injury from a car accident, that required surgery; which forced me to reconsider my career path.
Mike & I spent countless hours within the historic Jubilee Block throughout our lives, in childhood and into our adult years; whether perusing the massive candy counter at Morris’ on Sunday nights before The Wonderful World of Disney came on, eating breakfast at the Hen House, or picking up something for our parents at Sweets Hardware Store (Mike completed his plumbing apprenticeship at Sweets as well). The block has always represented happy times for the both of us.
My love, appreciation and vivid childhood memories were a driving force behind my vision to try and re-create a space that would replicate the nostalgia of days gone by and transfer those warm recollections onto others.
Mike & I did the majority of the work ourselves - from plumbing, to drywall and mudding, to building counters and hanging lights. In total, it took us 16 months to complete the project; countless late nights, and early mornings. Working in the dark, with only space heaters, perched on scaffolding and ladders, working diligently to bring my dream to life. There were so many obstacles, hurdles and setbacks - countless tears of frustration, anxiety and joy; I gave up once when Covid hit, and during that summer (2020), Mike and I took over the canteen at Lower Beverly Lake Park, where we excelled and re-established our footing, which ultimately reignited our passion to see the bakeshop through.
The rest is history ❤️
Today we celebrate our 1 year anniversary, and I can’t help but feel overwhelming gratitude for this life; for this opportunity and privilege to fulfill my dreams. Everyday I wake up being my own boss, working alongside my best friend - my mom, in my hometown that I absolutely love and cherish; in a store that I helped to build from the ground up, literally.
Thank you for every visit, for every purchase, for every compliment and most importantly, thank you for supporting us and believing in us throughout this journey.
I’m so proud to be apart of this incredible community; it’s something I brag about to anyone who will listen, and I promise to continue to represent Delta to the best of my abilities and make you all proud; today and every day in between.
Much Love,
Amy & Mike xo
