Let's all pause and reflect on how amazing this cake is!
Keep Calm & Spa On! Birthday Cake
I have made little Ava's past birthday cakes and this year it was another year to celebrate and what a beautiful and calming way to spend your day than with your besties being pampered!! Sounds perfect to me!
I got back from Thailand only a few days ago where I was myself pampered and calm, so I was in the Zen mode when making this cake! My lovely client left the cake design to me, but wanted something pretty, girly and spa inspired!
To me, spa days are about calm, flowers, fluffy robes and for some reason bamboo! So this design came about to combine all of that. The cake was covered (although the detail is hard to see) in a tiled and textured kelly green colour that was inspired by lino prints. Repetitive design is a true calming influence. For a little pizazz, I raised the cake up and it sat on a riser that was covered in golden bamboo stalks. The main decoration is the spa girl. She is all handcut in 2D and with the addition of the fluffy robe and hair towel, she immediately gave the cake the spa look. I added lots of colourful, tropical style sugar blooms to cascade from the top of the cake down for colour and fun and lastly added a little playful sign "Keep Calm and Spa On!" This kept the cake design whimsical and perfect for a little girl's party.
The cake is vanilla/chocolate marble cake. Little Ava and all her spa buddies loved the cake and they were all being perfectly beautified at Glamour Girls Kids Day Spa in Earlwood.
Happy 5th Birthday Ava!
