The spring of 2020 brought about so many changes for us all as we entered into isolation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Who knew, that well over a year later we would still be dealing with something that we thought wouldn't last longer than a few months. While the impact that the pandemic has had on all of us was quite rough, as we literally had to refrain from being with those that we love
and cherish, it brought about a new sense of what really matters, self-sufficiency, environmental awareness, and how to best occupy our time when we had nothing to do. For us, it brought us closer as a family, focusing on quality of time, baking homemade bread, and and it also provided us an opportunity to explore how we could help out nature with things that we never thought of before.....like beekeeping...who knew?!?! With a bit of research and online ordering, we made the jump into the world of beekeeping! Our first double hive arrived well into the night under the Strawberry Moon on June XX, 2020. Thousands of them! Were we scared and doubting our quick decision?? Absolutely, but there are no regrets! It is a fascinating process to watch and learn with the end result of delicious unpasteurized honey. Our first harvest went out to family and friends as Christmas gifts and we even took it a bit further by experimenting and doing up small batches of cold smoked honey that could be used in cooking a variety of items and is absolutely divine as a drizzle over ice cream! It goes quite well with baked Bree cheese bringing it to the next level. Moving into the winter of 2020, we had pre-planned ordering additional hives and splitting out current hive, providing it survived the winter. As luck would have it, our bees survived and we had a nice strong hive that we were able to split this spring. While our bee colony isn't excessively large, it is turning into a great hobby. Wildflowers are abundant everywhere and it is nice to see our shaled property have colour to it. We hope that you enjoy our honey as much as we do! The Mulder family
