Hot take: if you’re driving the Cabot Trail, don’t waste the ocean views on an empty stomach.

Ocean views are nice.
Ocean views with a lobster roll are better.

Fresh lobster, toasted roll, coastal air, and maybe a chowder… maybe butter tarts for the road. That’s a pretty solid Cabot Trail stop if you ask me.

If you’ve had our lobster roll before, what would you tell a first-timer to get with it: chowder, fries, or butter tarts?

What a day at The Clucking Hen! 🏃‍♀️☀️

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped in during the Cabot Trail Relay. The energy all day was incredible. The runners, organizers, volunteers, supporters, and customers were all absolutely amazing.

And to my Clucking Hen team… this was hands down the smoothest, most organized relay we’ve done together yet. We’ve all survived the chaos in previous years, so seeing everything come together so seamlessly today made me incredibly proud. You handled the rush with smiles, hustle, teamwork, and heart from start to finish. I truly have the best Clucking Hen team around. ❤️

Also, a big shoutout to the organizers for a great organized Cabot Trail Relay. It was such a pleasure to be part of it.

Now somebody bring us all coffee and a nap. ☕😂

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ This Saturday, the energy of the legendary Cabot Trail Relay Race will be rolling through the Cabot Trail once again!

This incredible 185 mile / 276 km relay winds through the mountains, coastlines, and small communities that make Cape Breton so unforgettable, and we’re proud that The Clucking Hen is one of the relay stops along the route. 🌊⛰️

We’ll be cheering on the runners as they pass through the North Shore at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

☕🥐 Because of the event and increased traffic, we will be TAKEOUT ONLY from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Regular table service will resume at 12 p.m.

Good luck to all the relay teams taking on one of the most beautiful and challenging races in the world. Cape Breton will be showing off for you this weekend. 💛

What a great first day back at The Clucking Hen for the season.

There’s something special about seeing the bakery cases full again, hearing the kitchen humming, and welcoming back both locals and travellers making their way along the Cabot Trail. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who stopped in today and kicked off the season with us. We’re excited for another summer of fresh baking, warm breakfasts, ocean views, lobster rolls, butter tarts, and busy days at the Hen.

Cape Breton summer has officially started. 🌊

The Clucking Hen returns for another season on the North Shore of the Cabot Trail.

Starting Saturday, May 16 at 8 AM, the coffee will be flowing, the butter tarts will be warm, and the lobster rolls will be ready with one of the best views in Nova Scotia waiting outside the window.

To the locals who return every season, the travellers making the Cabot Trail journey, and the people who accidentally discovered us and never forgot us… we’ve missed you.

Here’s to another summer of ocean air, early mornings, good food, and full tables.

Has solid kitchen experience
