Over the years, many of you have supported our carrot cake fundraiser for my brother Skyler — a campaign that has meant so much to me and my family. Keeping his spirit and memory alive will always matter deeply to me. This weekend marks 5 long years without him. He had a sweet tooth like no other! Weve raised money in his honor and donated to organizations helping those who struggled the way my sweet brother did.
Skyler had such a huge impact on my life. I think about him every single day — the things he used to say, the way he saw the world, the lessons he left behind without even realizing it. There are still moments almost daily where I catch myself saying, “My brother Skyler used to say…”
This year, grief feels especially heavy. Loving someone through addiction leaves a lasting mark, and I just don’t have it in me to do the fundraiser this time around.
So instead, I’ll simply ask this:
Be kind to people. Check in on someone you love. Addiction touches more families than most people realize, and you never truly know what someone is carrying. 🤍
