Kendric Campbell

Kendric Campbell Kendric is a 3 year old boy who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma (brain cancer.) Kendric started vomiting a few mornings about a month ago. Thank you!

Kendric Campbell, a sweet and adorable 3 year old boy from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, has been diagnosed with Medulloblastoma. After multiple visits to the doctors everyone thought it was “reflux”. Kendric's parents had enough and demanded for something to be done. Kendric was sent for a CT scan where it showed he had a brain tumour. The tumour was located on/near his brain stem. Kendric and

his mother Erica were flown from their hometown in Moncton, New Brunswick to Halifax, Nova Scotia to meet with a specialist at the IWK Health Centre on Monday, October 10, 2011. His father Mark and 8-month old brother Davis have joined them in Halifax in what is turning out to be a very heart-wrenching time for their family. While at the IWK, they were told the brain tumour was inoperable. This was a very difficult time for Mark & Erica. After further consultation, the medical staff decided that they would operate on Friday, October 14th. With a 50/50 chance, Kendric made it through a 9.5 hour brain surgery. The sweet little boy showed his strength that day!! The next day, the MRI showed that the doctors were able to remove all of the tumour from the brain. The next step was to complete the pathology to determine what type they tumour it was. Four days after the surgery, the results showed that it was malignant and called medulloblastoma. Kendric must now go through an extensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment for the next 24 months, still staying at the IWK in Halifax, NS.. several hours drive from his home. The family's hardship does not end there! His mother Erica, is on maternity leave with their 8 month old son. To make matters worse Mark is unable to work due to the travel commitments and to be with his family. We are asking for any support that you could provide--- If you can raise money at work, do a zumba class, bake sale, donate, provide gift cards.. or be creative to provide this family with one more miracle---it would be greatly appreciated......

Thanks for everything and keep praying,

Commitment to Learning Award ❤️

There are moments as a parent that are hard to put into words, and today is one of them. Kendric received the Commitment to Learning Award from his high school, and my heart could not be more full. What makes this award so meaningful is not just the academic achievement behind it, but everything he has had to overcome to get here. Throughout high school, Kendric has suffered a stroke every....single.... year. Each one has brought new challenges and taken a little piece of him physically and mentally. There have been countless trips to Boston, Toronto, and Halifax, long days in hospitals, endless therapies, appointments, and more missed school than any student should have to endure. Yet every time life knocked him down, he found a way to get back up. Despite everything he has faced, he never stopped caring about his education...his dream of attending Mount Allison University. He worked tirelessly, pushed through the difficult days, tackled the overwhelming fatigue, and somehow managed to keep his GPA above 90%!

I have watched him fight battles that many people will never see. I have watched him face disappointment, fear, loneliness, frustration, and uncertainty, yet he continues to move forward with a determination that leaves me in awe. This award represents so much more than learning. It represents courage, perseverance, resilience, and a young man who refuses to let his circumstances define his future. As he prepares for the next chapter of his life, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and honour.

Watching the person he has become has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Kendric, you continue to inspire me every single day. I am so incredibly proud of you and all that you have accomplished.

Congratulations on this well deserved award. You earned every bit of it. 💙👨‍🎓

Big news in our house today, Kendric got into residence at Mount Allison University🎉! He’ll be studying psychology, and it’s starting to feel very real now 🥹. So proud of him and all the hard work that got him here.

Excited (and maybe a little emotional) for this next chapter..💙

Kendric is slowly completing his IWK clinic follow-ups one by one. Over the years, we’ve been through nearly every clinic at the IWK. Some have been part of his life since he was just 3 years old, when we first entered the world of childhood cancer.
One of the most constant supports has been the Endocrine Clinic. Dr. Mokashi has been there from the beginning. After 15 years of incredible care, we are now transitioning to adult endocrinology.

I feel confident with most of Kendric’s transition into adult care. But the emergency side of things is what truly terrifies me.
The IWK has been our safety net for 15 years..our place of answers and calm in crisis. Letting go of that feels like stepping into real uncertainty. In my opinion, young adults with complex medical histories need a better bridge in emergency care. That gap is real, and it is frightening. I was literally his “ambulance” during his last two strokes. There was no waiting, no hesitation, just getting him to the IWK because that’s where he needed to be.

I am deeply grateful for the IWK and everyone who has cared for Kendric over the past 15 years. But I can’t pretend that losing that immediate, trusted emergency support doesn’t scare me. I just truly believe there has to be a better plan in place for young adults like Kendric during this transition. He definitely deserves that...

And that’s a wrap on our Toronto medical trip!

As always, Kendric faced everything with quiet, unwavering bravery. Every step, every test, every appointment, he always amazes us.

Hearing words like “atypical” still hits hard, especially when you're sitting in one of the world’s top paediatric hospitals. It’s overwhelming at times. But it also shows just how important it is that Kendric is surrounded by such incredible care. With the IWK and SickKids teams working together and even specialists from Boston Children’s involved we know he’s getting the very best care possible.

One of the brightest parts of the trip? Seeing Kendric and his little brothers just be kids. They cheered, laughed, and soaked up every second at both the Raptors and Leafs games. Of course, Kendric added another NBA jersey to his collection, a spark of joy in the middle of a week full of tests and appointments.

Kendric’s courage inspires us every single day. He’s our warrior, and he never stops showing us what strength and courage really looks like.

We’ll be back at the IWK the first week of April, with a few local appointments leading up to it. Step by step. Day by day...

Day 3 in Toronto.. It was a long day of tests and doctor’s consults for our Kendric. We are incredibly thankful for all the doctors at Sick Kids for giving their time, care, and expertise to help put a plan in place for him.

We met a few new doctors today, and one in particular reminded us so much of Kendric’s all-time favourite doctor, Dr. Berman, who we first met years ago at the IWK. There are certain physicians who just have that presence, the kind that instantly gives you comfort and trust when everything feels uncertain. We have been so fortunate to have met so many of those doctors along this journey...

One more day of appointments and then tomorrow night we get to do something fun, the boy's first NHL game and Davis' absolute favourite team, Go Leafs!!

This has been our first medical trip as a family in a long time. Kendric’s little brothers have always been such an important part of supporting him and helping carry him through the hardest times. Having them here with us has made this trip feel different, lighter somehow. For K and I, sharing this journey together as a family and finding moments to make memories along the way has been incredibly special to us...

Day 1 in Toronto. We’re starting the trip with a Raptors game tomorrow and then heading to Kendric’s appointment at SickKids on Monday morning. For so many years now, we’ve tried our best to make these trips feel like a vacation for Kendric instead of just another hospital visit. I still remember all those continuous and long trips to the IWK, making sure we booked hotels with pools and waterslides so there was something fun waiting for him after all the hard stuff. Somehow though over the last few years, all the pools and slides turned into NBA games😆.

When I look back, I realize how much I truly cherish all these memories. They don’t feel like hospital trips for a sick kid. They feel like time spent with my boy...the moments we’ve held onto through everything.

This time though, the whole family is here with K and I. We’re hoping to get the little brothers to their very first NHL game. They are both HUGE hockey lovers. Davis' favourite team is the Leafs and it would be extra special for him to cheer them on.

As always, we come here holding onto hope and believing in the strength of our warrior. 💙✨💫🎗️

Thank you all so much for the birthday love for our Super K! Every message, comment, and bit of love meant so much to him.

He had a birthday that felt big in all the right ways… family all around him, best friends by his side with laughter filling the restaurant and a new tattoo 🏀to mark another milestone.

In March, we head back to SickKids, a place that has been there since the start of his stroke journey and a hospital that gives us guidance and so much hope. This time though, he’s counting down the days with excitement!! He’ll be walking (maybe running) into his very first Raptors game, proudly showing off his new ink. This is a dream he’s talked about for years and it is finally happening. Although… I have a feeling there might be a little Celtics fan hiding in there now..☘️

Thank you for continuing to walk beside him and cheer him on. 💙🎗️

Happy 18th Birthday, Kendric.

Eighteen years ago, you made me a mom and my heart has never been the same since. From your first breath, you taught me what unconditional love truly means. From the VERY beginning, I have watched you fight battles you didn’t ask for, stand tall in moments that would have broken others, and grow into a young man whose strength truly humbles me…

You have faced challenges with courage, you’ve chosen grace in situations that would have hardened most and you always carry yourself with such strength...far beyond your years. Your bravery, your determination, and your quiet resilience inspire me more than you will ever know.

Turning 18 is a milestone but what makes today so powerful isn’t the number, it’s the journey. It’s everything you’ve overcome. It’s the character you’ve built. It’s the man you are becoming. Every scar, every obstacle, every victory has shaped you into someone completely EXTRAORDINARY. I am endlessly proud. Grateful beyond words. And forever changed because I get to call you my son.

Happy adulthood, Kendric. The power, grit, and spirit you've shown will light up every path you choose. ✨
