Been a busy baking weekend! There is nothing that makes me happier than knowing the ingredients going into my food. The muffins are made with sourdough discard, and I added pumpkin and oatmeal for extra fibre. Delish!

Did you know bagels are boiled before baking? This is how they get that chewy texture.

Opened a jar of discard and it literally popped open at me! I had noticed it was bubbly and looking active but what a surprise! It has been refrigerated for a few weeks! Wowza! Any other sourdough bakers get this?

Let’s do this as a group. Such a heartfelt project and reading thr comments, I am drawn to organize. Who wants to join me to crochet some blankets? 🧶

Nova Scotians who quilt, knit or crochet, we need your help! 🧶

Thank you to the many generous Nova Scotians who quilt, knit or crochet blankets for patients receiving treatment at the QEII Cancer Centre and in our Palliative Care unit. We are seeking blankets for patients in:

Cancer Care – lap-sized blankets
Palliative Care – single-bed size blankets

The blankets will be handed out by volunteers to the patients in palliative care, and in the numerous cancer centre waiting rooms while they wait for treatment. A lap-sized blanket, or “lapghan”, is made to fit over a wheelchair or someone in a sitting position. Sizes typically range from 32” to 48” (81-122 cm) wide by 35” to 40” (89-102 cm) in length. There are many patterns to choose from online. A single-bed size blanket is around 65” wide by 90” in length (165 x 228 cm).

If you would like to quilt, knit or crochet a lapghan or blanket for our cancer centre and palliative care patients, please bring your donations to our volunteer coordinator of Cancer Care and Palliative Care, Erin Fair, in Volunteer Services, Room 24, main floor of the Centennial Building, any time from Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m, or to Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Chipman Building, Room 622, any time from Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

If no one is there when you arrive, or if you can only deliver after these hours, donations can be left outside the office door and will be collected the following business day.

🙌 NEW 🙌 The QEII Foundation will give an in-kind tax donation receipt for a minimum of $50 of yarn, wool, or fabric purchased to make these lap blankets. Receipts will be issued for the cost of materials, less any taxes paid. You will just need to give your receipts and the following information, along with your donation:
• A receipt from place of purchase with the cost of materials.
• Your name and mailing address.

Thank you to the quilting, knitting and crochet community for all your amazing support! 🥰
