a lot of people are surprised at how much custom cakes cost, like any handmade artistic endeavour, there is a lot going on behind the scenes that costs money. it’s not the same by any means as mass produced bakery cakes that cost less than half of what custom cakes cost, they buy ingredients in huge quantities, at wholesale rates, while small custom cake bakers buy everything at retail price.

I started doing cakes because I was shocked at the pricing, but once I was into it, I realized that the pricing of these cakes across the board is reflective of the time, effort, and skill put into them!

I just did a calculation of ingredients, supplies etc for a basic two tier chocolate cake with buttercream filling/frosting with fondant decorations, and before even factoring in anything for the tools, or the time I spend to bake and decorate, it costs me about $65 (and I am a coupon ju**ie).

Once I spend 3-6 hours decorating the cake, (if) I pay myself minimum wage, that’s another $40-80, and then time and gas spent delivering the cake to your event... that’s a total “cost” price of around $110-$150!

So I want to say a huge thank you to my loyal customers who order cakes all the time, I’m grateful to have your support and encouragement! And as always I am happy to share my cake decorating skills to help you make your special event perfectly perfect!!
