So… I’m going to make a PSA (public service announcement) of sorts.

We are in for a wild ride after Labour Day. 50% tariffs will be implemented on both sides.

Doing a quick breakdown ….

Currently, our exchange rate fluctuates between 45-48%. For every dollar I spend, it’s close to $1.50. This does not factor in anything else. Hotel, gas, GST, shipping, wear and tear on my vehicle.

Now…. Let’s add another 50% to this. It puts me in an impossible situation.

I have never enjoyed the trips across the border. Quite simply, all I’m doing is shopping for stuff for my customers. What makes me happy is the happiness I see on people’s faces when I bring back something they love. Makes my whole day.

That’s the only reason I do it.

When I started Stacked almost 5 years ago, it was a way for me to draw people here. We are not on main street, so sometimes we get missed. We have never been allowed to advertise around town with signage, as per town bylaws. Bringing in US products got our name out quickly. And then people came and got food and drinks. Breakfast Sandwiches!

For 5 years I have held my CFIA license, and I do my own brokering at the border to cut costs. But I cannot swallow another 50%.

I will be going Labour Day. I will do what I can for everyone. I don’t know how long this will drag on.
