In just a few days, it will be one year since I took that step towards the life I had always dreamed of. 🤍
Being a girl from a conservative Bangladeshi family and choosing a different path before marriage is not easy for any girl.. It took me a lot of courage to choose a different life that many girls would be afraid to choose. But for me, I always wanted this!! Since childhood “Study Abroad” was my one and only dream and goal of my life. When I finally made it to the UK,, to my dream university,, no one was waiting for me with a carpet full of roses. 🥀
I came with almost an empty pocket. I went door to door looking for a job. I worked 18 hours in a day and got paid for only 6 hours. There were months when I had only £20 in my pocket. I was jobless for months and faced financial struggles, exhaustion, loneliness and homesickness. Then, after four months I finally got a good job. I paid my tuition fees. I paid my bills. I bought things I always wanted. I ate all kinds of chocolates that I had only ever seen on the internet. 🤭 I travelled to different cities across the UK and explored. I made some good friends. I made countless memories,, the kind of memories we dream about while growing up watching Bollywood and Hollywood high-school movies.. 😁
And then there is Cardiff University. When I came here I had absolutely no skills of research. Today I have my own research project with my name on it. I spent countless hours in the library, pushing myself even when I was exhausted. Through everything I kept realizing one thing that 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬.. 🤍
This one year was a blast. But more than that, it was the year I lived the life that any other girl might not want, but I always dreamed of. And somehow, that dream shaped me from the inside and out. Today, I can finally say “𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭.” 🤍
