or the last 27 yrs, having started his career pulling apart and rebuilding his first ever saddle, he then spent a lot of years in a saddle breaking and training horses. He knows the importance of a saddle that fits in all the right places, for both the horse and rider. Balanced rider, balanced horse, happy riding. Dave also enjoys cowboy action shooting and creates gunbelts and holsters to specifications and safety. AND anything that can be crafted, moulded and brought to life using leather!

One job at a time.

We're so far behind in jobs at the moment, and truthfully, it weighs heavily on both of us.

There's no magic wand. No miracle solution. No one coming to suddenly make it all disappear.

Just one foot in front of the other. Head down. Bum up.

Every day we chip away a little more. Every saddle, repair, fitting and order gets us one step closer.

That's the reality of a small family business. Sometimes all you can do is keep showing up and keep moving forward.

Same Master. Same Craft. A Bigger Home. 🐎🔨

We’ve heard a few whispers lately—people asking if "David Earle Custom Saddles" is going away. We want to clear the dust off the bench and give you the straight word: The DEX legacy is only getting stronger.

David is still the man behind the bench with me by his side. Every custom saddle, every 'Workhorse' bag, and every piece of leather that leaves our workshop is built by the same hands you’ve trusted for years.

So, why "Saddler's Rest Wondai"?

As our business has grown, we realized we aren't just making saddles anymore. We are building a destination here in Wondai—a place for the Saddle Making School, our custom saddle range, and soon, a place for a damn good coffee while you watch the master at work.

Here is how it works moving forward:

The DEX Range: This remains our official brand for our custom stock saddles. If it’s a David Earle saddle, it’s a DEX saddle. Period.

The Workshop: Our physical home on the highway in Wondai is now Saddler's Rest. It’s where the magic happens.
