Simply Retro: Coffee Cake ☕✨
In 1911, in Hyderabad — an old city in the heart of Sindh, Pakistan — a bakery quietly began a legacy.
Bombay Bakery wasn’t just a place to buy cake; it became a ritual, a memory, a tradition carried home.
If someone travelled to Hyderabad, there was only one request waiting back home:
“Bombay Bakery ka cake zarur le ke aana” — don’t forget to bring back the Bombay Bakery cake.
Generations queued outside the bakery for it. Carefully packed after a trip to Hyderabad, sliced and shared at home, and enjoyed slowly with a cup of hot chai.
For many of us who grew up with it — and now live far from home — that flavour still lingers. A soft, buttery crumb with a bold coffee kick. Simple. Comforting. Unforgettable. A taste tied to journeys, childhood, and togetherness.
At Simply Amber’s, we wanted to honour that feeling and to recreate the emotion behind it. Inspired by the iconic Bombay Bakery–style coffee cake, we baked our own tribute here in Sydney, hoping to rekindle that warmth for those who miss it — and introduce a timeless classic to those discovering it for the first time.
Some cakes are just desserts.
Others carry stories, journeys, and generations within them.
This one is a classic worth rediscovering. 💛
Did you grow up with this cake, or are you discovering it for the first time?
