My First Successful Sourdough Loaf!
At the start of 2025, I woke up one day and decided I'd learn how to make sourdough bread!
It's always scared me because it seemed so technical and complicated. I mixed up some flour and water to make my starter, and it exploded in three days. It smelled like cheese farts. Then it started smelling like acetone, and slowly it became fruity. But it was too high a commitment to keep feeding it, so I just left it in the fridge...
Then, towards the end of the year, I somehow ended up on SourdoughTok and was inspired to start again! I revived Methuselah with some help from a friend's starter and baked away over the Christmas weekend!
After a few failed attempts and many wasted loaves, I finally made my first successful loaf thanks to the aliquot method! I still think there's a lot to improve, but I was so happy with it!
Also, shoutout to .co, who sent their beautiful fruit preserves over for us to try — it was a delight to pair them with sourdough!
My Asian mom says, "Nice! Not too sweet," and you know that's the highest compliment to anything!
Hope you enjoy this sourdough journey!
