The era of the "lone genius" designer is over.

True design magic happens when we stop designing for clients and start designing with them. By inviting our clients into the process, we align on a shared philosophy that goes far beyond aesthetics.

The result of this collective effort is a venue that feels lifted. Because no detail is overlooked and every seat is considered by the whole team, the final space works more effectively for everyone involved. It turns the design process from a simple transaction into a meaningful journey of shared creation.

In the end, that proximity is the real cherry on top. When we build together, the net result isn’t just a successful project; it’s a more powerful, functional, and joyful outcome for the community it serves.

Follow along to join our community of co-envirohackers and see how we’re building more meaningful spaces together.

In this video Callie ,reveals the "invisible architecture" that transforms a physical structure into a magnetic social hub.

Beyond mere aesthetics, this video explores the biological hardwiring that dictates why we feel an instant sense of ease in certain spaces whilst others remain cold and uninviting.

It is a deep dive into how subtle sensory triggers can be used to programme a room for genuine human connection.

By aligning spatial design with our primitive instincts, we can curate atmospheres that encourage guests to lower their guards and socialise more naturally.

Discover the philosophy behind our work at COOOP.co and how a deep understanding of neuro-architecture allows us to design for the human spirit first.

Why Design comes Last!

In an industry often obsessed with immediate aesthetics and the "hero shot", our Principal at COOOP.co, Callie Van Der Merwe, argues that we shouldn't rush to the drawing board as It ignores the complex human machinery that a building or interior is meant to serve.

In this video, Callie breaks down why this counter-intuitive approach is the secret behind COOOP.co’s most successful projects. It’s about respecting the end-user enough to get the questions right before we pick up a pencil.

Check out the video below to see how we’re flipping the traditional design process on its head to create spaces that actually matter.

At COOOP.co, we believe every world-class environment starts with a single, purposeful stroke. Our look into the past project of Nestlé Lahore workplace showcases the evolution of luxury from an initial sketch to the final render.

This isn't just about drawing furniture; it is about defining the human experience through interior design.

We begin with a conceptual study of the Entrance Foyer, where red-penned annotations map out acoustic baffles and specific lighting requirements. These early sketches serve as the blueprint for atmosphere, ensuring that structural elements like lowered ceilings cleverly hide beams while yellow strip lights guide the eye through the space.

As we move from the page to the digital render, the vision for the Nestlé Lahore office gains its full weight. In the Call Centre and Work Stations, we use two-tone carpets to frame different paces of movement, creating a rhythm for the workday. The design integrates brand icons seamlessly into a professional, high-end aesthetic that reflects the "Good Food, Good Life" philosophy.

The Meeting Rooms and Training Rooms transition from rough line work to immersive environments. Vertical timber slats and sliding stacking doors add texture and flexibility, while mottled carpets ground the room in comfort. Every detail, from the desk facing the back of the wall in an Office Study to the specific leather pads on the furniture, contributes to a cohesive sense of place.

Seeing a design travel this path—from a "Study 1" sketch to a vibrant, functional render—remains the most rewarding part of our process at COOOP.co. We aren't just building offices; we are rendering the future of work.

Follow COOOP.co to see how we continue to transform the next bold sketch into a world-class luxury workplace.

Reimagining Quick Service: Nando’s Potchefstroom

With the Nando’s Potchefstroom project, COOOP.co aimed to break from typical "fast food" norms and create a rich social space celebrating South African heritage.

A key feature is the "87-degree tilt," a geometric nod to Nando’s founding year. This design element is a clever brand hint, fostering a unique atmosphere that distinguishes it from standard franchises.

To enhance engagement and encourage patrons to stay, we utilized "enviro-hacking," applying insights into human behavior to enrich the dining experience.

The space reflects Potchefstroom’s academic identity, with library-style seating and book-inspired elements appealing to the local student and professional crowd.

By merging these intellectual touches with Nando’s Afro-Portuguese vibe—featuring warm timber, copper details, and a bright color palette—the venue feels both upscale and authentic.

The interior serves as an evolving gallery, displaying contemporary South African art and custom furniture from the Nando’s Portal to Africa.

This focus on materials and craftsmanship turns the restaurant into a design destination, enhancing it beyond just a dining spot.

By connecting the city’s heritage with a modern African style, we emphasized comfort and storytelling, creating a vibrant landmark out of a quick-service venue.

Rewriting the Rules of Quick Service: Nando’s Potchefstroom

When we took on the Nando’s Potchefstroom project, our goal at COOOP.co was to move beyond the traditional "fast food" mold and create a deeply layered social space that celebrates South African heritage.

A cornerstone of this architectural narrative is the "87-degree tilt," a unique geometric signature we integrated to honor the year Nando’s was founded.

This intentional design quirk serves as a subtle brand Easter egg while creating a dynamic, non-linear environment that signals to diners they are in a bespoke "Casa" rather than a cookie-cutter franchise.

To drive engagement and encourage diners to linger, we leveraged "enviro-hacking"—using human behavioral knowledge to curate a more meaningful guest experience. The space acts as a cultural mashup, honoring
Potchefstroom’s identity as an academic hub by reinterpreting library-style seating and book-inspired motifs to resonate with the local student and professional community.

By blending these intellectual nods with Nando’s signature Afro-Portuguese warmth—rich with earthy timber, copper accents, and a vibrant sun-drenched palette—the venue feels both premium and authentically grounded.

The interior functions as a living gallery, showcasing original contemporary South African art and bespoke furniture sourced through the Nando’s Portal to Africa.

This focus on materiality and craftsmanship transforms the restaurant into a destination for design enthusiasts, ensuring the store is a tactile experience rather than just a place to eat.

By merging the city's roots with a modern African aesthetic, we prioritized human comfort and visual storytelling to turn a quick-service location into a vibrant landmark.

Hunter & Barrel at 2 King William St, Adelaide, offers an elegant interior with an "Elemental Reverie" art theme.

This blends 18th-century romantic landscapes with modern glamping, inspired by South Australia's beauty. The décor features local landmarks like Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges, focusing on fire and shared experiences.

The "Modern Twist" art collection uses muted tones of ember red, burnt ochre, and charcoal grey. It mixes old landscapes with modern elements like canvas tents, creating a bridge between past and present. The golden-hour lighting and wide skies make the art feel like a view into Australia's vastness.

Key artworks include:

"The Fire Circle": A starlit gathering symbolizing community.
"Dawn Over Wilpena": Sunrise over the ridge, suggesting optimism.
"Down the Onkaparinga River": Capturing a peaceful late afternoon.
"Ghost Ranges": A minimalist view of the Flinders Ranges at twilight.

Strategically placed artworks anchor dining zones, with hero pieces at the center and smaller works guiding the eye. Firelight-inspired lighting enhances the ambiance.

Now open to the public, we invite you to experience this masterclass in spatial storytelling. Which of these South Australian landscapes resonates most with your own sense of adventure?
