Last Friday, the 11th of November was Remembrance day. Haven Place was lucky enough to have a visit from Franklin’s father, Sean, to share his stories about a soldier’s role in the Australian army. Sean also spoke to the children about the importance of Remembrance Day, paying our respects to those who defended our country.

Including families in our Petit Kew community creates strong connections and meaningful learning experiences for children. Our Blossom Hill children had a fantastic time with some of their parents, Shipraa and Shelly as they participated in a beautiful dance activity with props. This was a great activity to build different cultural connections and also helps us build a sense of community by inviting families to participate in our program.

Diwali is a Festival of Lights celebrated within the Hindu culture. It is a celebration of “light over darkness”. The Haven Place and Darling Drive studios celebrated by creating rangoli on the ground with colourful glitter, and día - candle light holders out of salt dough. 🪔

Last week Darling Drive children paid a visit to the local Coles supermarket to do grocery shopping for their cooking experience. They made a list of what they needed and then walked to the supermarket to find everything to prepare our recipe. As the children put food in the trolley we talked about where food comes from and which fruits and vegetables we like the most!

The children enjoyed eating the fruits and learning descriptive words such as sweet, sour, juicy and crunchy. Through this experience, Darling Drive promoted healthy eating by making informed decisions about which foods we buy and why as well as road safety rules and social skills such as turn taking and being respectful to others.

Today we had an extra special visit from our local firefighters who showed us how their wonderful fire truck works! We were so lucky to have a turn with the hose, sit in the truck and hold some of their special fire fighting tools!
