A second time bride was looking for a tea length dress for her upcoming wedding but couldn't find anything suitable.
She purchased a gown with a train and brought it to me to have the train cut off and shortened to tea length. While the bride had the dress on I noticed that with a few minor alterations the dress will fit like it was made for her.
I found the best way to get the hems level was to put the dressmakers' model on my dining room table and found that was easier than trying to work at floor level.
So, 4 hems, tucks in the back, shoulders and bust the dress is transformed.
No pictures though until after the wedding.

Working on altering a full length wedding dress with a long train to make it a tea length dress. Lots of layers to shorten and removing lace appliques to alter shoulders and darts in the back and then replacing appliques. No pictures until after the wedding.

Having a bit of a break at the moment and missing my sewing machines but will be back in April. Looking forward to resuming lessons and projects and starting new ones with all the inspiration I have been getting in our travels. The colours are amazing. Some unique wedding designs in the offering. So, if you are planning to marry in the second half of 2019 and are looking for something different in wedding outfit or gown feel free to send a message. I promise I will return your call as promptly as Telstra coverage allows.

You know those jobs you say "when I retire I'll have time to do it"? Well, I'm now retired from the workforce and really loving the time to sew, but before I do any more sewing, I'm going to sort out all the stray pieces of pattern that have been pulled out of their packets and used in conjunction with another pattern. Thankfully, I have a pattern inventory cheerfully compiled by Chloe Huchet that I can use as a reference as to which category/drawer the pattern is in. Although there are 16 pages the pattern number and description will tell me where to look for its friends.
I am looking forward to crossing this job off my list.

This week I have one urgent project and another that's been years in the making. Urgent one first - a white dress for my daughter, Kim, to wear to a "White Night" event. Checking my fabric stash for a suitable piece.
Next on the list is a dress I started many years ago and for some reason didn't finish. The fabric is white organza embroidered with delicate, tiny, softest pink roses and green petals. I can't find the remaining fabric so I must have used it elsewhere. Never mind, this has given me an opportunity to be creative with the way the dress will be completed and a splash of colour is what I am imagining.
Now I am really looking forward to putting these ideas into practice so should be a fun week. This is my new starting point and pictures of rejuvenated dress when completed.

Just finished latest wedding dress for a delightful bride who wanted a dress inspired by her husband-to-be's clan's tartan. Thankfully an attractive pattern that was woven in silk and shipped from the UK. The theme has been continued with tartan ties and pocket squares for the men and ribbons for the bouquets.
Best wishes to the happy couple for their big day on Saturday.
Photos after the big day.

Feeling excited but a little bit scared. Just placed an order (two actually), for a large amount of silk and satin remnants that I plan to use in some new and unique bridal fashion, with no white fabric in the order. Lots of pinks in varying shades, champagne and parchment. Main gown will be in mushroom pink. Silk Trader is having one of their sales and I didn't want to miss out this time. I have all the designs in my head, just have to get them to come to life. Should all arrive tomorrow if Aus Post is on the ball.
Will post photos of my progress.
