Do you remember the first time you tried something new?
I remember the first time I made macarons. I don’t know why I suddenly had the urge to find them, learn about them and make them, but I did. Maybe it was their elusiveness and reputation for being difficult that drew me in.
The funny thing is, I’d only ever eaten a macaron once before (and in hindsight, it wasn’t even that good!).
And I was so proud of that first batch. Looking back now, they were far from perfect, but at the time I thought they were amazing.
But the point is, we all start somewhere.
That was 10 years ago.
Now I can make a batch almost effortlessly. It’s become muscle memory. When something isn’t quite right, I can usually diagnose the problem before they even hit the oven.
Experience doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from showing up, making mistakes, learning, and trying again.
I’d love to hear from you — what’s something you can do effortlessly now that once felt impossible? Or what are you learning and working on right now?
