North Coast Drought and Disaster Appeal.

North Coast Drought and Disaster Appeal. Food for Farmers - North Coast Drought Appeal aims to send Hampers, toiletries and toys, as well as fodder to farmers doing it tough in drought.

Following the drought we assisted with bush fire aid and now we are assisting with flood relief. Appealing to the communities of the Northern Rivers District of NSW to donate non-perishable food items that we can pack into Christmas boxes for farmers and their families who otherwise would not have much of a Christmas. Each box will be packed full of practical and festive food such as: jars of jam,

pickles, pasta sauce, vegemite, peanut butter; tins of vegetables, fruit, tuna, oysters; packets of biscuits, pasta, rice, cake mixes, jellies, stock cubes, lollies (but NO chocolate as it melts!) Tea, coffee, Milo; bottles of salad dressing, tomato or bbq sauce; cartons of longlife cream, custard, fruit juice etc. Each hamper will contain a Christmas cake & pudding, a tin of ham or salmon, lollies and maybe dried fruit or nuts and even a bottle of wine!! All the glass is bubble wrapped and the hampers are packed tightly and safely for their long journey. They are freighted free of charge by the wonderful Tamex freight company. This year they will be going to the same districts as last year and the year before, as the drought bites deeper. Areas such as Bourke, Walgett, Brewarrina, Collarenebri, Mungindi, Lightning Ridge and Coonamble where some farmers have had no crops for 3 years and that's a long time between pay days!! Donations of cash are really appreciated and enable us to buy what is needed at the time. Banking details are: North Coast Drought and Disaster Appeal, Summerland Credit Union BSB 728-728 A/C 22321288

We were so fortunate to receive a very generous donation to our flood appeal from a lady in Darwin just before Christmas. This was in lieu of giving her family presents. Her granddaughter requested that some of the money should go to help animals. We decided that to make the most difference, we would donate to Mathes the local Koala Rescuer, who was flooded out herself. The donation will enable Maria to continue her wonderful work saving our koalas, as well as helping to get her back in her home after close to 12 months in a campervan.

Tara and particularly Weiumbilla is on my mind. My heart goes out to the whole community, and in particular Brian Monk and his family. Such a tragedy for the whole community, in fact the whole country. If you see a member of the police today, thank them for their service. 😢😢
