Wouldn’t this make a difference to people who are struggling.
Dubai is doing something most cities won't even think about.
The emirate has installed public fridges on the streets — stocked with free cold food, drinks, and frozen treats. Anyone who needs it can walk up and take. No forms. No questions. No charge.
The initiative is backed by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, UAE Food Bank, and local charities. Volunteers and residents restock the fridges regularly so they never run empty.
It started in 2024 with 1 million refreshments distributed to outdoor workers during the brutal summer heat. This year, they're aiming for 2 million.
Construction workers, laborers, low-income families — anyone struggling in the scorching desert heat has somewhere to turn now.
This is what community care actually looks like in action.
