Brazil’s Arabica coffee harvest is nearing completion, while the Robusta harvest has been virtually completed.

According to Cepea, despite the increase in supply, prices for both Arabica and Robusta coffee rose in July. The main driver was the rainfall across Arabica-producing regions, which raised concerns about the pace of harvesting operations and the quality of the beans.

Market participants interviewed by Cepea reported that the Arabica harvest is approaching its final stage, with approximately 20% of the crop still to be harvested. In most producing regions, harvesting activities are now focused on collecting coffee cherries from the ground and finishing the last remaining plots.

Robusta prices also moved higher in July, despite the increased availability resulting from the completion of the harvest. According to Cepea, the price increase was supported by the smaller Robusta crop harvested this season, as well as the continued strength of Arabica prices.

The Brazilian black pepper harvest has been delayed this season due to persistent heavy rainfall across the main producing regions.

At the moment, many growers are completing the Robusta coffee harvest before moving their workforce and equipment to the pepper fields. As a result, the start of the pepper harvest has been pushed back.

The good news is that crop quality expectations remain very positive. Growing conditions have supported healthy pepper development, and buyers can expect good quality in the upcoming shipments.

It is important to note, however, that the mid-year crop represents only a small portion of Brazil’s annual production. The largest harvest traditionally takes place at the end of the year, making the current supply naturally more limited.

This temporary shortage continues to support firm market prices, with most export contracts currently being negotiated for July shipment.
